Birmingham Ormiston Academy (BOA) is a 14-19 academy specialising in creative, digital and performing arts. The academy opened in September 2011 and has over 1000 students (277 at KS4 and 728 at Post-16).
In 2014, BOA won a tender to manage and operate The Old Rep. Our vision for The Old Rep is a theatre for young people, run by young people. The Old Rep is our second campus and has both amateur and professional company performances.
As a Senior Technician, you will be responsible for the technicians at both The Old Rep and BOA, overseeing the delivery of the technical requirements. The role will also include acting as Production Manager for the BOA Christmas show, held at The Old Rep.
This role will include technical show operation shifts as well as management and administration, company liaison, production management, and support for our Apprentices and BOA Technical Theatre Arts students.
We are keen to appoint an innovative, motivational, organised, suitably qualified senior technician. You will be enthusiastic, flexible, hardworking and a good communicator. It is essential that applicants possess previous experience in a technical role within a professional theatre, educational institution or a busy arts centre.
The chosen individual will also ideally possess:
* Experience of working with visiting companies and creative teams
* Experience of lighting design, programming and operation, including intelligent fixtures and confidence with ETC Eos/lon series desks.
* Excellent understanding of Health and Safety practice and procedures
* Experience of theatre sound engineering, including mixing live music and musical theatre, programming and operation of Qlab.
* Experience in motorised and hemp flying, rigging and focusing of luminaries and prep.
* Good IT skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Office. A working knowledge of Vectorworks, AutoCAD or similar an advantage.
