IT provides excellent technology that differentiates us in the eyes of our customers, colleagues and investors. We design and build technical solutions as fast as the business needs them and at a cost that compares to world-class benchmarks. We support and develop a huge technical infrastructure: for example, we have 800 ATMs, 26,000 servers and 145,000 PCs & laptops.

The remit for this role is to provide an Information strategy and architecture for the domain (Advanced Analytics and Big Data) which meets business and enterprise needs, and to deliver design blueprints/artefacts which enable that architecture to be built and operated, as well as appropriately validated roadmaps.

Key Accountabilities
* Understand the needs of the domain and lead thinking in the way that those needs should be satisfied by IT.
* Be the principal advisor for the domain technology architecture and strategy.
* Define and communicate an IT architecture which balances the needs of the business and the domain and which is in line with the architecture and standards of the group.
* Own and develop a fit for purpose IT vision and roadmap for the aligned domain.
* Guide investment in the domain so that it follows the strategy and delivers the target architecture, reflecting the demands of that investment in the IT pipeline.
* Document domain blueprints and gain approval for their inclusion in the reference architecture.
* Deliver domain blueprints to support solution designs, which in turn can be successfully built and operated by AD&M and Service Delivery.
* Leverage the capabilities of technology vendors and sourcing suppliers to define architecture and deliver blueprints.
* Present EAD design artefacts to the relevant architectural governance committees, to obtain timely approval avoiding delay or project risk.
* Participate in managing and maintaining vendor relationships, evaluating usefulness and cost of products and making appropriate recommendations.
* Support the Head Of Function to build, lead, develop, appraise and motivate a team of architects that it is capable of satisfying the accountabilities described above.

We'll look for you to:
* Maintain a sufficiently deep knowledge of business areas and technology to provide architectural leadership and direction for the domain.
* Win the trust, confidence and commitment of senior business and IT stakeholders and to lead their thinking.
* Communicate resource demand to meet the delivery commitments of the domain.
* Pragmatically balance the demands of delivery projects with the need to maintain the integrity of the target architecture.
* Delegate key architectural decisions and delivery responsibilities while retaining oversight and accountability.
* Balance strategy and vision activity with the operational and service demand.

What we'll need from you:
Knowledge of one or more of the following Primary Domains:
* Big Data - Hadoop ecosystem
* Advanced Analytics - Machine Learning, Cognitive
* Public Cloud
Experience on two or more of the following technology types
* Big data - ideally Hortonworks HDP
* Cloud - Amazon, Microsoft, Google or IBM
* Streaming - ideally Apache Kafka
* No SQL - ideally Cassandra
* Statistical Analysis - ideally SAS, R
* Data visualisation - ideally Tableau
* Teradata
