A leading provider of Digital Solutions within the Public Sector requires a Java Developer for a major project with a UK Government Client.
The individual will be responsible for leading the design and Java development of webmail user and management functionality using the new mail store technology (Dovecot), IMAP email protocols and mail store APIs.
To be effective you will need to be familiar with webmail functionality and application migrations.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
The successful candidate must be comfortable in a Senior Developer role and be confident in the full SDLC. The project will be delivered as a hybrid agile project, involving daily stand-ups, sprints and a prioritised backlog of features.
The successful candidate will need to rapidly build a good understanding of current functionality from specification review and legacy code inspection.
They will have to then design and develop the replacement code to implement the functionality, completing unit and initial integration tests.
They will be expected to work to agreed software development standards and use agile delivery and build tools including JIRA, Teamcity and Git. They will need to follow user stories written in Gherkin and managed in JIRA, in addition to legacy functional specifications.
They will need to investigate, diagnose and resolve defects identified by the client testing.
Client engagement
The successful candidate will work closely with the client Product Owner to validate implementation details.
The successful candidate will be expected to take a lead role in the medium to long term on the automation strategy the company develops. They should show a keen interest in continual improvement and be pro-active in their use of gems and frameworks to ensure we are at the forefront of best practices.

Key Skills:

5+ years of experience of leading Java development of web applications on Red Hat Linux, Apache and Tomcat
Direct experience of integrating with LDAP and IMAP protocols
Direct experience of using Sieve scripting language
Multiple project experiences in a DevOps build environment using Git and Continuous Integration tools
Multiple project experience of working with Atlassian toolset including JIRA and Confluence
Excellent understanding of the agile delivery cycle with experience of working in an agile environment.
Excellent understanding of Behaviour Driven Development (BDD).
Able to achieve SC level security clearance
Confident communicator to peer and senior level.
Experienced of working in a client facing environment
