My client is based in Dublin and is looking for a Senior Operations Engineer
to join their team of 7. You will work with some of the best professionals in
the marketplace as they hire a veruy high calibre of candidate. As they are
constantly upgrading, expanding and growing their infrastructure and teams.

What you'll be doing:
- Manage availability, latency, scalability and efficiency
- Assist in automating deployment of services and the application stack
powering them
- Participate in troubleshooting service problems from the network through
the application stack and preventing their recurrence
- Implement tools to gather real-time metrics for performance analysis in
the present and capacity planning for the future

What you need to have:

- Expert level Linux systems administration experience, preferably with
Red Hat/CentOS 5 and above
- Solid understanding of Internet infrastructure protocols such as TCP/IP,
HTTP, DNS, SSH, LDAP, and SMTP, along with the software serving them
(such as Apache, nginx, Varnish, Bind, PowerDNS, OpenSSH, OpenLDAP,
Postfix, and Exim)
- Strong tuning and trouble-shooting skills in OS internals (filesystem,
virtual memory, scheduling), networking (switching, VLANs, basic routing),
and code (system call tracing, debugging/profiling tools)
- Demonstrated scripting skills in one or more of Python, Shell, Perl, and
Ruby (Python strongly preferred)
- Experience with alert and trend monitoring software, including Net-SNMP,
Nagios, Cacti, and Graphite (custom plugin writing a plus)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- BS in Computer Science (or 4 years relevant work experience)

What they would love to see:

- 5+ years experience in a high-availability data center environment for serving
large web services, along with related software such as LVS and HAProxy
- Solid experience with configuration management tools like Puppet or Chef (or at
least a strong appreciation of the need for them and willingness to learn)
- Python object-oriented programming experience in an operations capacity
(think APIs, not isolated scripts)
- DBA experience both relational (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL) and non-relational
(e.g., Cassandra, MongoDB), along with related caching software (e.g., memcached, Redis)
- Virtualization experience, preferably with Xen or OpenVZ (Amazon AWS experience a plus)
- Experience using bug tracking/version control tools like Trac, Subversion, and Git
- Involvement in the Open Source community (code writing, patch submission, bug reporting, etc)

They are considering candidates right away, so please do not hesitate to send me
an up to date CV in Word format, and / or call me Valerie Heatley on 01 8883444.
