The Audit Assistant Manager based in Birmingham will be responsible for:

  • Preparing the audit pack, including review of the planning memorandum, working paper file, financial statements and audit conclusions, which will include technical report writing
  • The Audit Assistant Manager will take ownership of managing the audit process, including budgets and timescales, as well as completing required forms, providing commentary on accounts, summarising outstanding points to managers, analytical review, passing file to senior team members for review, and finalise all review points
  • Planning assignments in accordance with ISAs using the software provided
  • Ensuring partners review and sign off planning papers to ensure fieldwork of the audit can start within a timely manner
  • Liaising with clients on issues which affect their business, explaining, when necessary in 'laymen' terms the technical issues they face and how they can be resolved
  • Ensuring each client's company accounts are filed within the statutory timelines
  • Demonstrating a good knowledge of: corporation tax, income tax, VAT, PAYE, company secretarial procedures and applications in practice
  • Identifying internal control weaknesses, communicating weaknesses through the preparation of a management letter
  • Demonstrating a good working knowledge of UK GAAP and / or IFRS
  • Taking responsibility for ad-hoc engagements including due diligence assignments and accounts preparation work
  • As the Audit Assistant Manager you will be responsible for day-to-day staffing and technical matters and resolve any queries
  • You will also be responsible for ensuring junior members of the audit team are aware of significant risks, enabling them to understand the risks in order that they complete the audit to a satisfactory level
  • Office based in Birmingham and on-site audit work, including allocation of work within the designated team
  • Suggest ideas and concepts for inclusion in marketing initiatives with existing clients
  • Participate in the preparation of internal presentations / training courses in Birmingham and other areas

  • Manages complex assignments and has significant client / external contact
  • Identifies business opportunities within own area and refers to other colleagues for next actions
  • Builds, develops and maintains relationships within own function

Skills required for the Audit Assistant Manager based in Birmingham

  • Qualified Accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA or equivalent)
  • Solid experience in practice, with relevant audit experience
