Senior Electrical Lead - Aerospace
Senior Electrical Lead Specification
A leading global provider of training simulators to the civil aviation, defence, rail and other industries. Combining the highest engineering standards with leading-edge technologies, providing airlines with Door Trainers, Cabin Service Trainers, Cabin Emergency Evacuation Trainers and Full Size Mockups and defence organsiations with Procedure Trainers, Maintenance Trainers, Ejection Seats, Simulators and Full Size Replicas. Serving organisations worldwide from its UK headquarters, committed to delivering exceptional quality and value to its clients to help them enhance safety and operational efficiency.
From a design perspective, they develop complex integrated electrical, mechanical, and control based systems for the purpose of providing realistic operation and sensation for operators. These rely heavily on mechanical systems (linkages and mechanisms) being operated by servos/ actuators, controlled through PLCs, and with a software based user interface.
Skills and experience:
Experienced electrical designer able to design complex drive / control based systems
Able to work across a number of projects and manage own delivery to project deadlines
Design for compliance to regulations
PLC Control design, programming, commissioning, and problem solving
Complex requirements decomposition and validation / verification determination
Able to manage the technical work of support designers
AutoCAD / Solidworks Electrical / Another electrical CAD package experience
Resolving production issues / ECRs / Change
Beckhoff PLC experience
Beckhoff Servo Drive experience
Qualifications / training:
Ideally degree qualified in Electrical related discipline, although will consider lower education level if accompanied by experience in senior engineering role
People with experience with this industry are ideal, however a general background in controls / drives / panels / or automation is relevant. Robotics, control and automation, production equipment, water industry.
Defence industry experience is desirable, most notably when dealing with complex requirements sets.
Detailed design of electrical control systems
Creation of BoM's, drawings, schedules
Generation of PLC code and testing
Integration discussions with mechanical and software teams
Coordinating associate electrical design team
Travel is on a project by project basis. There is some expectation of travel within the UK to support client or supplier discussions.
Must be capable of gaining UK Security Clearance.
Personality / Culture fit:
Working in a delivery focussed culture with informal communications routes across the IPT's / departments to discuss and resolve issues. Due to its rapid expansion there are many opportunities for improvement and a mindset of continuous improvement is encouraged.
Seeking someone with critical thinking skills who is not afraid to challenge the status quo if there are better ways to approach activities.
Team and working environment:
Split into three main product areas; Civil, Military, and special military projects. Each of these is run as an independent Integrated Programme Team, focussed on the delivery of the projects in these areas, and headed up by project managers. All people in an IPT are seated in the same location to allow ease of communication and working.
The electrical team is split across these IPT's in order to provide focussed support, although the resource flexes across the teams dependent on specific workload or support needs. The design functions are coordinated by a design manager who has line manager responsibilities.
There are frequent formal and informal engagement with the production management and team leads when support is required.
