Lead Engineer - Seats

Our OEM Client based in East UK is searching for a lead engineer to join their growing team. The role will report directly into the Chief Engineer and the ideal candidate will be responsible for a team of design & release engineers/CAD designers.

The purpose of the role is to deliver engineered seating systems systems to project teams meeting functional, financial, quality and time targets. Provide technical leadership and supervisory functions to the team. The role provides the opportunity to develop and apply new technologies to new products.

The Client will consider both permanent and contract candidates


  • Design planning - resources and costs
  • Technical leadership and day to day management of team
  • Management of Tooling and Component suppliers as appropriate
  • Release and approve where applicable Components through MPPDM system
  • Preparation of concept information.
  • Generation of the Bill of Materials (BOM)
  • Support to the Project team in the generation of the Engineering Timing Release Schedule (ETRS).
  • Lead component and subsystem design reviews as required.
  • Reporting and management of progress relative to the engineering timing and release schedule.
  • Technical sign-off and release of design schemes, assembly drawings, component drawings, installation drawings.
  • Preparation and approval (where appropriate) of DVP's and FMEA's .
  • Providing support to the purchasing function in the selection of vendors including SSS form.
  • Transmittal of engineering information to downstream users as required.
  • Analysis of test results and concern reports and preparation of concern resolutions.
  • Identification and application of new technologies relevant to assigned systems.
  • Support to the Chief Engineer to develop and implement engineering design processes.
  • Represent the Interiors engineering function to clients, potential clients and other areas of Lotus as required.
  • Support to the Chief Engineer in generating planning and programme proposal information.
  • Support to the department in achieving the requirements of quality systems approval.

Skills and Education

  • Masters Degree in Mechanical/ Automotive / Aerospace, Industrial, Product engineering is essential
  • PhD or Chartered Engineer
  • Direct experience of Automotive Seat Design & Development
  • Proven Leadership skills in delivering technical projects.
  • Extensive knowledge of Manufacturing processes relevant to Vehicle interiors
  • Knowledge of vehicle Interior system performance targets
  • Knowledge of a robust engineering delivery process, technical risk management and control.
  • Knowledge of structures and vehicle cockpit systems
  • Awareness of Global Legal requirements
  • Understanding of Automotive Benchmarking procedures
  • CAD awareness, PC Applications, including MS Project and Powerpoint
  • Ability to apply analytical tools, CAE
  • Specific knowledge of CAD systems. High level communication skills in English. Second language would be advantageous
  • Must have OEM or Tier One experience using automotive systems
  • Strong work ethic, self-motivating, ability to work individually and as part of a team.
  • Excellent presentation skills.

Salary/Hourly rate will be dependent upon candidate's level of experience
