Our client is looking for Deputy Home Manager based in Elmside, Hitchin.

As a member of the senior team you will support the Home Manager and senior team in all aspects of the Home's management. This will include assisting in the management, development and evaluation of all aspects of service provision in the home, within policy guidelines ensuring that all relevant legislation, organisational policies and procedures and codes of practice are adhered to. The Deputy Home Manager will take temporary complete charge of the home in the absence of the Home Manager, when required.

Directly manage and supervise care and ancillary staff to enable them to maximise their potential through leadership, example and guidance.

Form and maintain open and constructive relationships with all who have either an interest, or statutory duty, to ensure good practice and so enhance the quality of life for the residents. These will include residents, relatives/carers, staff (local, Regional and Head Office), and volunteers.

Help to maintain in the home the atmosphere and practice of care.

Management

Support the Home Manager in the duties of 'Responsible Officer’ for the Home under all statutory requirements, legislation and in-house practice. This will include maintaining relevant records, logs and other documents as necessary, and the issue and control of medications for which the Home has taken responsibility.

Take responsibility for the management of one or more parts of the Home (either physically such as a dementia wing) or for an area of work (e.g. care management or housekeeping).

Undertake regular formal supervision and appraisals for the staff for whom they are responsible, actioning training needs when required in accordance with organisational policies and procedures.

Ensure that effective induction, supervision and appraisal is conducted with designated group of staff, in conjunction with the Supervision and Appraisal policy and procedure.

Ensure resident reviews take place, giving support to staff, families, carers and health professionals involved in the decision making.

Help maintain log books and records required by statutory legislation, local authority or the management of the organisation.

To undertake specific tasks as delegated by the Home Manager.

To support the Home Manager in the promotion of good employee relations within the home to lead and develop a motivated team. Deal with problems involving employees at an early stage in consultation with the Services Manager and HR Department as contained in the Policy and Procedures Manual. Be responsible for effective communications in the Home, in particular monitor and manage staff attendance, performance management and retention of staff.

To assist the Home Manager in the implementation of Volunteers’ policies, practices and procedures.

Offer support to the Senior Team in order to develop effective management systems. Motivate staff and promote good attendance levels whilst utilising the Absence Management Policy.

Assist the senior team in the development and implementation of the Quality Assurance programme and Employment Policy and Procedure Manual ensuring the policy statement and plans are developed accordingly.

Assist in the recruitment and selection and induction of staff, in line with best practice as contained in the Recruitment & Selection Manual.

Be responsible for the day-to-day implementation and promotion of the organisation’s Equal Opportunities policies and procedures.

Play a leading role in identifying the training and development needs of staff and volunteers. Promote continuous development in the workplace. Assist in the evaluation of training for staff attending training events in conjunction with the Regional Training Programme. To ensure that staff undertake NVQ training in order to achieve the care standards targets.

Care Delivery

Manage and develop care staff to formulate effective care planning specific to problems of all residents, specifically to the problems of older confused residents.

Respect residents’ rights to privacy, dignity and choice.

Ensure residents are enabled and empowered to participate fully in decision making as appropriate. This will involve the senior team in maintaining direct personal contact with individual residents, their families and advocates.

Be constantly observing resident behaviours and staff interactions in order to ensure good care practice is maintained.

Ensure the passing on of information to all staff as appropriate with due regard for confidentiality and relevant information to residents and relatives.

Assist in developing and encouraging social activities for the residents.

As delegated by the Home Manager to be responsible for medication including ordering, stock control and administering, in accordance with the Medication Policy.

Ensure high standards of care practice are maintained through care planning, staff management and effective communication.

Assist care staff in dealing with challenging behaviour in a positive way and be proactive in responding and dealing with any aspects of resident abuse in line with the organisation’s policies and procedures.

Undertake specific tasks relating to resident care as delegated by the Home Manager.

It is a condition of employment that the Deputy Home Manager is required to perform 'on call’ duties which necessitates sleeping in the home where there is a requirement by the Registration Authority.(optional if not relevant to the specific home)
