Head of Procurement & Supply Chain

Location: Manchester

Start Date ASAP

Package: Salary circa £70,000 plus car/allowance and excellent benefits

Our Client: Is a £250m pa integrated design and build solution provider operating in the water and energy from waste sectors. Over 1000 staff working across 8 regional centres, primarily supporting 6 long term water sector frameworks operating increasingly in joint ventures and alliances.

Description: You will develop our Client's procurement capability and capacity both centrally and regionally. Being a Sector leading by the creation of real measurable value and efficiencies including the reduction of risk through the development of a Strategic Supply Chain. Ultimately creating a support service that is valued, respected and trusted by Operations both internally and across their clients and joint ventures.

The current forward workload is more than £1.2bn. Up to 50% of that turnover will be delivered through their strategic supply chain. This area has been identified as a key future strategic opportunity for targeted development and efficiency.

You need to be an exceptional Procurement professional able to drive this strategic objective forward through their central support services organisation. Reports directly to the board director.

The Role: Deliver the strategic objectives for the procurement function

Lead the continuous development of staff with regard to current and future roles required.

Champion the use and embedment of internal procurement system (IFS).

Effectively manage the procurement process, ensuring compliance with processes, policies and procedures including regional relationships and support.

Improve and manage the approved supplier database

Understand and implement the company quality, safety and environmental policies and targets

Ensure that the supply chain is competent in health and safety, quality and environmental management

Monitor the performance of suppliers to ensure that the company continues to use those providing the best delivery service levels

Resolve supplier performance issues and disputes.

Identify and manage team resource issues and performance issues.

Set and monitor the department budgets to ensure high quality efficient delivery against business targets including recovery.

Promote/uphold corporate vision and values

Ensure continuous personal professional development by participating in external networking/conferences/associations/groups, to stay current on industry changes and innovations.


Essential: Senior level experience of Procurement and Supply Chain

Management/leadership experience including a proven ability to drive organisational change

Ability to work to deadlines and prioritise work in a demanding environment

Construction/engineering background

Computer literate (use of Excel and Word)

Desirable: Process/water industry experience

Power generation experience

Degree level qualification

CIPS qualification

Health and Safety, Quality and Environmental qualifications

Supplier auditing and expediting expertise
