Our client provides security and multiscreen user experience solutions for the monetization of digital media. The company offers content providers and DTV operators worldwide secure, open, integrated platforms and applications over broadcast, broadband and mobile platforms, enabling compelling and personalized viewing experiences. They are extending two Technical Authors the opportunity to join their dynamic team. ROLE Acting as the internal expert on user communications, the Technical Writer will work within Product Management to create industry-leading documentation. Close collaboration with R&D to build systems and processes is required to help create elegant documentation automatically. The Technical Writer will work collaboratively with other team members in designing and maintaining written material to assist partners, clients and internal personnel in understanding and using the product unit portfolio. This will include product integration guides, architecture overviews, product feature lists, product API documentation, help files, product installation guides and other product support material. The output of the material will be in electronic formats, with the prime goal of maintaining an online presence. RESPONSIBILITIES • Produce and update high quality product information and technical documents with each new product release. • Create and maintain new documents to explain complex product concepts such as information flow as instructed by developers and product managers. • Work with R&D on developing systems and processes for automated document generation • In conjunction with other writers, decide how best to organise and present the documents. • Work with documentation end-users to ensure that it is written at the correct level and provides all necessary information. • Review and edit material created by other departments, providing information clean-up and enrichment as well as basic proofreading and formatting. ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS • Proven prior experience of successfully working as a technical author in a company producing complex software applications. • Excellent skills in one or more desktop publishing or authoring tools. • Ability to understand and contribute to document auto-generation systems, focusing on the presentation and integration of such auto-generated documents. • The ability to absorb information quickly. • People skills and the ability to liaise with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs). • Strong listening skills. • A clear and concise writing style. • A flair for turning technical subjects and jargon into easily understood text. • Analytical and inquisitive. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. • University degree in computer science (Bachelor or equivalent) or equivalent experience. DESIRABLE • Experience of: Drupal, Markdown, JSDoc, Doxygen, or similar. • Experience using standard development tools such as source control and bug tracking systems, as part of an integrated documentation process. • Visual skills: an appreciation for the visual, graphics and formatting as well as illustration skills. • Validation: able to confirm that the product works the way it is documented to work. • An understanding of Agile and other software development methodologies. • Highly motivated and articulate, and used to working in high-pressure environments. • An appreciation of a growing company environment and ability to deliver against very challenging deadlines and have a flexible approach to the demands of the role. • Knowledge of pay TV systems. Ideally experience working with systems involved in areas such as subscription management, e-commerce, content management, video players or other software that supports the pay TV industry.
