Advanced Research Engineer – Design & Simulation

This exciting opportunity will let you do all of the above and more as you join one of the UK’s leading technology centers dedicated to the continuous advancement of technology, processes and the Manufacturing sector within the UK.

Joining the Design & Simulation team you will work in a client facing role across a range of projects to support leading names in the industry as they seek to design and optimise their factories and overall business performance. Your role will see you responsible for project-based creative problem solving, conceptual solutions, system design and optimisation.

Exposed to businesses of varying size across all sectors from automotive and aerospace through to food, electronics and Oil & Gas you will apply your knowledge of operations management techniques to real engineering problems and their effects. Projects will vary in size from new production lines or process improvements to remove bottlenecks through to full new factory layouts.

Key responsibilities will include:

- Conducting analysis to define and understand business problems


- Identifying potential solutions and strategies to implement change


- Supporting project delivery in line with quality, cost and delivery targets by producing and maintaining project plans and status reports


- Technical leadership and project management of projects over £100,000 in value


- Lead project proposals, business case writing, client liaison and customer engagement to win repeat business

To carry out this role they are seeking applicants degree educated in operation management/ research, mathematics, engineering, manufacturing, modelling, simulation or physics. You will also need manufacturing, layout design, programming and manufacturing cell simulation experience as well as experience conducting simulation and layout design studies.

Technical skills they seek include:


- Programming skills such as VBA, C++ or Java


- Experience with kinematic modelling and virtual commissioning


- Knowledge and use of layout design


- Use of statistical analysis tools such as Minitab, SPSS or R


- Knowledge and past use of Discrete Event Simulation (DES) software such as Witness, Plantsim, Flexsim, Simulink or Simul8
