Due to the key requirements of the role we cannot process applications that do not have experience in testing and/or certification of electrical products. Intertek's Electrical team applies more than 100 years of product testing expertise to quickly and efficiently help clients meet safety, performance, environmental and quality requirements for every market they wish to enter. About the role The Intertek office in Leicester deals with the following services associated with certification of electrical equipment: •ASTA Approval of wiring accessories such as plugs, sockets and circuit protection •ASTA Type Test Certificates for electrical equipment, typically switchgear and controlgear •Certification in accordance with national, international and regional schemes, e.g. G-Mark During recent years we have benefitted from growth in turnover and are now seeking to reinforce our engineering resource. The role will principally be to participate in the ASTA Type Test Certification scheme This is likely to include: •Processing and management of enquiries, quotations and orders for type testing and certification •Preparation, review and authorisation of test programmes •Preparation of certificates and reports •Checking of certificates and reports •Provision of ASTA Observer services (witnessing of type testing for ASTA Certification) •Assessment of laboratories to ISO 17025 and Intertek requirements •Implementation of Intertek policies, procedures and regulations •Liaison with clients, including development of professional relationships and providing technical support •Support for internal sales and business development staff and activities •Regular monitoring of projects including discussions with colleagues in other offices •Provision of reports and statistics •Support and represent Intertek on national and international technical committees, including development of standards •Support for new Intertek services Requirements To appreciate the purpose and value of conformity to Standards and Certification. To support the maintenance of Intertek’s accreditations To comply with the Intertek Code of Compliance To maintain knowledge of: •The National and International Standards for the specific product category for which he/she is responsible and the provisions concerning their obsolescence and withdrawal. •The Low Voltage Directive with the UK Electrical Equipment Safety Regulations. •The rules of the international product certification schemes that are relevant to their products. •The Intertek Business Management System work instructions and their implementation •General principles of safety •Laboratory testing methods •Interpretation of oscillograms and circuit diagrams. •Grades of insulation and their application •Typical electrical supply installations •Mechanical and thermal properties of plastics •Waveforms and their effect on RMS values, peak-to-peak values and measuring instruments •Selection of samples for tests representative of a family of products •The assessment of potential concessions and waivers Additional Information The job is full-time (37.5 hours/week) and principally office based in Leicester, but travel within and outside the UK may be required occasionally. Consideration may be given to suitable applicants for working from other Intertek offices, e.g. Leatherhead, or from home. We will provide the required training, education and mentoring that will allow you to meet the requirements of the role and develop new skills to progress in your career.
