Mechanical Design Engineer

We have an excellent opportunity for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join an global company in the development and manufacture of innovative special purpose machinery and bespoke equipment used in various industries, including pharmaceutical and medical devices.

Mechanical Design Engineer duties:
Work with a multidisciplinary team to design and develop mechanical components and systems that meet agreed functional specifications.
Design, draw, test, and assemble the developed mechanical components and systems, whilst adhering to agreed quality standards
Responsible for the design and development on specific areas of projects and ensuring that the project is delivered within an agreed cost and time-frame.
Conduct feasibility studies and evaluate designs with respect to their failure modes, ease of assembly, cost, and design safety (risk).

Education and Skills required for the Mechanical Development Engineer role:

A degree in Mechanical Engineering (or any related subject such as product design...etc)
Between 1-5years experience in mechanical design and development within a manufacturing company
Experience in producing 3D models, detail component drawings, and assembly drawings using any 3D design software such Solidworks, Inventor

Desirable Experience (but not pre-requisites):
Designing sheet metal welded fabrications and precision machined components.
Knowledge of plastic injection moulding, aluminium extrusion design and pneumatic systems would be advantageous.
An understanding of failure modes and designing for manufacture.
Familiarity with computer based analysis tools.
Experience of Autodesk Inventor
Experience in designing special purpose machinery or bespoke capital equipment would be a distinct advantage, however, not essential

Desirable Qualities:
Positive approach to design problems, even when there is no obvious solution.
Able to design instinctively whilst at the same time being aware of when analysis and calculation is appropriate and necessary.
Able to accept advice and suggestions from others but at the same time maintaining a strong sense of personal design ownership and direction.
Being able to present design proposals with considered arguments and reasoning to other team members, being flexible enough to adapt or change your proposal in the event of a better idea.
