Our client is looking for a Retail Store Manager to join their management team. The role will be based in Chichester.

They are a family run business and has traded on High Streets for over 83 years.

They specialise in a wide range of Home Furnishings products; bespoke and ready made Curtains, Blinds, Shutters, Tracks and Poles as well as Dress-making Fabrics, Haberdashery, Knitting Yarns and Crafts.

The Retail Store Manager's role is broad and encompasses the following duties:


• Responsibility for overall sales performance of Store against monthly targets.
• Promotion of product ranges and services internally and externally.
• Business development and increasing sales through local marketing initiatives and sales floor strategies.
• Training and development of staff with specialist product knowledge.
• Uphold Company values in customer service.
• Create interesting and engaging window and in-store displays to promote specific ranges.


• Manage profitability of sales throughout Store.
• Ensure efficient stock control via EPOS system. Keep pricing and ticketing current.
• Supervise and conduct weekly stock counts, culminating in organisation of annual Stocktake. Minimise theft and wastage in all areas.
• Resolve customer complaints.

Personnel Management:

• Overall management of all personnel within the Store.
• Management of local external freelance team of curtain makers and track fitters.
• Responsibility for interviewing, recruitment, training and performance management of all staff members.
• Management of staffing budgets and floor cover; including holidays, sickness and overtime.
• General leadership and motivation of staff to maximize performance and output.
• Preparing for Buyers and Directors visits. Liaising with Head Office team when necessary.

Building Management & Security:

• Control of the Store Operating Expense Budget and general upkeep of building.
• Identification of maintenance and renewal work required. Sourcing and appointing local contractors to resolve issues.
• Overall responsibility for all Health and Safety and First Aid policy within the Store.
• Head key holder responsibilities for the building including procedures for alarm systems and security systems.
• Oversight of banking, petty cash, till and paperwork systems.

Salary: £27,000 - £30,000 per Annum + Incentives and Benefits

The successful candidate will have at least 5 years’ of Retail Store Management experience. A Department Store Manager would be well suited to this role given the breadth of their product ranges and the number of staff. Knowledge of their products is beneficial and advantageous, though not fundamental. Due to the longevity of their staff, this fantastic opportunity rarely comes up in them and will provide the right person with a challenging and fulfilling role.
