COVANCE Food Solutions (CFS) is one of Covance's oldest business units. For more than 80 years we have been helping companies in the food, dietary supplement, infant formula, restaurant, animal health and pet food industries across the globe.

We are recruiting for our CFS team in Harrogate and are currently seeking to hire a Senior Analytical Chemist. This senior position is a vital role to assist in the continued growth of busy growing laboratory. The role will involve carrying out of routine analytical work across a variety of assays, method validation and the training and support of other analytical chemists. We are looking for candidates with a broad experience of analytical techniques but ideally with demonstrable knowledge of one or more of the following: HPLC, LC/GC-MS, ICP, ICP-MS. This is a permanent, full time position at our Harrogate site.

About the Job

Within this position, your duties will include:

*Organizes, conducts and evaluates analytical results and testing independently in compliance with applicable methods, protocols, SOP's and regulatory agency guidelines
*Independently sets-up, maintains, operates and performs routine and non-routine maintenance on laboratory equipment and software, including problem identification and resolution.
*Performs peer review and QC review of data
*Promotes and contributes to a cohesive team environment and maintains a positive attitude. Plans individual workload in coordination with team members and may plan team workload in coordination with supervisors
*Identifies problems and makes suggestions for modifications in test methods or procedures
*Trains, mentors, and assists less experienced staff.

About You

To be successful in this position, you will need to be educated to Bachelors level (or equivalent) in a scientific area. Additionally, you will need to demonstrate:

* Robust knowledge and experience working in a laboratory environment
* Experience with using and troubleshooting of analytical equipment.
* Basic knowledge of computers and software programs.
* Familiar with the use of standard laboratory equipment.
* Effective communication (verbal and written), presentation and interpersonal skills.

Education / Qualifications

- Bachelor's Degree in relevant field (Laboratory experience may be substituted for degree)


- Experience (>2 years) in an analytical laboratory setting
- Experience with use and trouble shooting of analytical instruments such as HPLC, GC, LC/GC-MS, is desired
- Basic knowledge of computers and software programs
