Summary

This is an exciting time to join the communications team at Arthritis Research UK. At the beginning of November, Arthritis Research UK merged with Arthritis Care, to form a new charity, which allows us to strengthen the services and support we offer to the millions of people who are living with arthritis in the UK. The communications team is ambitious and in August 2017 we launched a nation-wide campaign to change national perceptions of arthritis, with further high-profile campaigns planned for 2018.

At Arthritis Research UK, we believe that a strong communications team is one of the main foundations for helping us to deliver real change for people with arthritis. We are looking for another member to join our communications management team as a Communications Campaign manager in a job share partnership.

About the role

  • Plan, develop and deliver audience-targeted communication campaigns
  • Provide senior communications consultancy to other teams in the charity, such as policy and public affairs, fundraising and the research team
  • Project manage integrated projects, which involves working with different teams from across the organisation
  • Responsible for developing and mentoring communications team members, with line management and career development responsibility
  • Taking an active role in the communications managers’ team – managing resource, being proactive in making suggestions for improving processes and professional development

Key requirements

The ideal candidate will be:

  • Passionate about working for causes that you believe in, making a real difference through delivering excellent communications
  • Experienced in planning for, developing and delivering communication campaigns, which generate impact and meet KPIs set
  • Able to inspire and motivate team members to work hard and deliver excellent work for you, with experience of delivering constructive feedback on early drafts
  • Experienced at providing communications advice and consultancy to teams across the charity (e.g. fundraising, policy and corporate partnerships), helping them to use communications to meet their objectives
  • Strong background in working with the media and knowledge of what news stories and pitches generate coverage
  • Someone who loves working in a fast-paced environment, with strong problem-solving skills and open to opportunities to change and improve processes
  • Committed to making a job-share work. You recognise your and others’ strengths and weaknesses, and know how to build on them to create a productive and effective team.

Arthritis Care and Arthritis Research UK merged on 1 November 2017. We believe that together we can overcome the pain, isolation and fatigue of arthritis and have a greater positive impact on the lives of 10 million people across the UK who are currently living with the condition.

Our ambition is to invest in breakthrough treatments, change attitudes towards arthritis, reach many thousands more with the information and support they need, and influence the provision of services and more essential research into better treatments and cures.
