An excellent opportunity has arisen to join a world leading global organisation, our client Unilever are currently looking for a Legal Counsel based at Unilever's prestigious facility in Leatherhead. This is a full time, temporary role for 6 months to start ASAP. The role is paying up to £45000.00 per annum, (£224.42 per / day LTD) pro rata, depending on experience.


Working within Unilever's UK/Ireland Legal Team, based in Leatherhead, providing legal advice to Unilever's UK and Irish business units. The legal counsels play an integral part in the businesses' own risk control processes for commercial and marketing activities and closely business partner all aspects of the business.

An opportunity exists for a temporary placement within the commercial side of the UK & Ireland Legal Team. The successful candidate will take on a broad role and be primarily responsible for advising the UK and Ireland businesses on a broad range of matters relating to the development, marketing and sale of Unilever products and brands (both foods and home and personal care) and the management and protection of this large FMCG company. The successful candidate will support more senior lawyers in the team and report to the General Counsel, UK & Ireland.


To assist senior lawyers with the following:

*Supporting the procurement and supply chain teams to draft, review and negotiate commercial contracts, including service, consultancy, IT development and licensing and outsourcing agreements.
*Advising on matters concerning Intellectual Property, data protection, licensing, bribery, commercial contracts and competition law.
*Advising on advertising and promotional materials including sales promotions in line with rules and regulations including the CAP Code and BCAP Code.
*Providing product and innovation support, including, for example:
oadvice on product marketing claims, to ensure that such claims are legally defensible and properly substantiated; and
oadvice on product composition, design, packaging and labelling.
*Advising Customer Development ('CD') teams on relationships with Unilever's customers, including the implementation of agreements, trade terms and pricing, particularly in relation to the Unilever Food Solutions business.
*Advising on and conducting matters arising with government agencies, competitors and third parties relating the advertising and marketing of Unilever's products.
*Working closely with the Real Estate lead (Europe) and advising on a variety of Real Estate issues.
*Support for the General Counsel, UK & Ireland on ad hoc project work (including but not limited to regulatory, supply chain and real estate projects).
*Identifying and explaining legal risks to our business partners to help them navigate such risks.
*Providing legally compliant, creative solutions which deliver competitive advantage to the business, taking into account cost, risk and other relevant factors.
*Providing training to the business in relation to any of the above matters, including as part of Unilever's overall Compliance framework.
* Developing and maintaining relationships with relevant external contacts (e.g. lawyers of key customers/competitors, Government organisations, regulators, trade & industry associations, external bodies etc).

The ideal candidate would have experience of, or want to develop their skills in, the following areas:

*Contracts, for example, service agreements, consultancy agreements, confidentiality agreements, sponsorship agreements, talent agreements, brand building agency agreements, and joint business plan agreements with customers.
*Competition law (in particular its application to agreements between Unilever and its customers).
*Agreements involving IP rights such as licences and assignments.
*Data protection.
*UK Laws and codes relating to the classification, composition, labelling, advertising and sales promotion of Unilever's food, personal care and home care products.
*UK trade mark law and practice - brand use, protection and enforcement.
*Passing off - including use of celebrity image rights.
*Copyright - advice on creation and ownership of rights and infringement.
*Managing external lawyers in the UK and Ireland in relation to matters on which they are instructed by the UK & Ireland Legal Team.


As a guide, we consider that 1-3 years of post-qualification experience of advising in relation to commercial, marketing, advertising and/or intellectual property issues under the relevant legislation in force in the UK would be appropriate but we are willing to consider any relevant experience.
