Health Support Worker (Healthy Youth Centre) An exciting opportunity for a Health Support Worker. Our client is the UK’s first independent youth services mutual. Position: Health Support Worker (Healthy Youth Centre) Location: Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea Job Type: Part Time, Fixed Term Contract Maternity Cover until April 2018 Hours: 18 hours per week – including daytime and evenings. Salary: £12.15 per hour About the role: As the Support Worker you will develop and deliver programmes and activities which promote healthy lifestyles among young people attending Youth Centres. You’ll provide a school-based confidential drop-in service offering young people support and guidance on health issues and promote national initiatives aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of young people. You will plan and deliver weekly group work sessions for young people within youth centres as part of the Healthy Youth Centres programme and support young people to improve their knowledge and change their attitudes around their health and encourage them to make more informed healthy decisions for themselves. Involving young people through a range of methods, activities and workshops you will convey relevant health information effectively. In addition to this you will communicate effectively and professionally with youth centre staff and external health agencies and partners whilst supporting their wider offer to young people by assisting with the delivery of the Health Room service. You will provide a school-based drop-in service offering support and guidance on health issues, identify and respond to any mental health issues in young people accessing the service, providing one to one support and referral to professional services as appropriate. About you: To be considered for this role you must hold a JNC-recognised level 3 qualification in work with children and young people with experience of positively engaging challenging and hard to reach young people, monitoring and evaluating project delivery and providing services to young people with mental health issues. You must have a strong working knowledge of and interest in health topics such as sexual health, mental health, substance misuse or nutrition accompanied with an understanding of the issues around working with young people with mental health conditions and an awareness of legislation affecting this area of work. You will have excellent IT skills and be literate in Google programmes and use of the internet as well as possessing excellent communication skills with the ability to present information in a clear manner both verbally and in writing. You may have previous experience of managing budgets, providing services to young people with mental health issues and working with young people on other health topics. A good understanding of the local health support services available within RBKC would be highly advantageous as well as an awareness of the external services available to young people with mental health issues.
