Digital Studio Mac Operator

The key purpose of the role is to enable the production, ‘in-house’, of all elements of the company’s printed material. Ultimately providing “ready-for-press” files and proofs to publishers’ and printers’ specifications.

Key tasks:

  • To ensure that, in all cases, the final approved output files and correctly calibrated proofs are supplied for each programme item (media page advertisement, insert, mailer, etc.).
  • Creating digital artwork for mailers, media advert pages etc., utilising InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator expertise. Manipulating supplied colour images, incorporating retouching and colour-correcting, applying clipping paths, masks, etc., to match product requirements. Ensuring that all files output correctly and are compatible with relevant printers’/publishers’ specifications.
  • Adapt existing Master media advert pages for required publication size and coupon position changes.
  • Adapt media advertisement pages or mailers to insert format or vice versa.
  • Ensure that correct version of any programme is maintained on the server for future use, adhering to agreed procedures of the studio.
  • To produce all work to the highest typographic and design standards, maintaining and/or improving supplied brief. Ensuring all specifications and requirements are met.
  • To produce work to agreed schedules and deadlines.

Knowledge and experience required:

  • Sound working experience of repro requirements for process-colour printing
  • Sound working experience of colour management and colour retouching
  • Sound knowledge of Mac and system software (OS10.10-x)
  • Sound working experience of InDesign using versions CC16/17
  • Sound working experience of Photoshop using versions CS 6 – CC16/17
  • Sound working experience of Acrobat and Distiller and the ability to produce “press-ready” high resolution PDFs
  • Sound working knowledge of Illustrator

Essential qualities:

  • A “can-do” attitude with good communication skills and an excellent eye for detail
  • To produce high standard of typography
  • To produce calibrated contract-quality proofs to correct current specifications (i.e. FOGRA39)
