Salary Scale: £69,698 – £80,364 per annum (pro rata)

NHS Forth Valley welcomes applications to join a team of motivated Salaried GPs working in our board managed GP practices to support and maintain access to primary medical services.

Working as a salaried general practitioner provides benefits including enhanced job security, paid annual leave, study leave and parental leave in accordance with Board policies. A Childcare voucher scheme is in place. We have full-time and part-time posts and there is no requirement to work out of hours.

Two out of three of our board managed practices operate a new model of care where salaried general practitioners work as part of a multi disciplinary team. The team comprises experienced Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANPs) who triage, see patients and can prescribe. The team also comprises Primary Care Mental Health Nurses and Extended Scope Practitioners (Physiotherapists). This arrangement reduces delays and helps ensure patients have direct access to the specialist support and advice they require to meet their full healthcare needs. An in house team of pharmacists undertake various prescribing and medication review roles supporting the improvement of patient safety. These clinicians complement the salaried GPs freeing up capacity for patients who need to see a doctor.

As a salaried GP in these practices you will have 15 minute appointments over a 2 to 2.5 hour surgery twice daily. Full-time is 40 hours spread over 8 sessions (1 session = 5hrs) from 8.00am to 6.00pm. We can be flexible with full-time and part-time working arrangements.

This is an excellent opportunity for enthusiastic individuals committed to delivering high quality primary medical services comprising essential, additional and enhanced services. For those with an interest in being involved in promoting and further developing the concept of sustainable practices, as the changing primary care face of the future the posts provide the opportunity to be involved with an evolving model of care that offers real scope for innovation. As part of the core team the successful candidates would have the opportunity to participate in development activity and innovative projects within the practice.

Every attempt will be made to ensure consistency of location for successful applicants to enable continuity of service provision. However, in exceptional circumstances there may be a requirement to work across our board managed practices.

A good knowledge of the National Health Service General Medical Services Contract requirements with a good understanding of Clinical Governance is essential. Applicants are required to have evidence of recent continued academic and professional development. Applicants will hold a Certificate of Prescribed Experience from JCPTGP or equivalent and be registered with the General Medical Council and the General Practitioner Register by the time of appointment. A Royal College of General Practitioner qualification will be advantageous. Excellent, communication, listening and organisational skills are essential.
