Job Title: Trust & Foundations Officer Reports To: Director of Development Location: London, UK Contract:  Fixed Term 9-12months. 3 days/week or equivalent. Formed in 1982, Internews currently has offices in Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Latin America and North America.   GENERAL FUNCTION:   Through exceptional face-to-face, written and verbal communication, increase Internews’ income from significant trusts and other major grant makers in order to help substantially increase our trust, foundation and grant income.   The successful candidate will have a proven track record of positively, proactively and independently, leading on applications to major trusts, with a focus on both stewarding relationships in the existing portfolio of donors and generating new business through effective research and cultivation, as well as through the creation of well-written and persuasive cases for support.   The successful candidate will also have the skills and gravitas to proactively engage with our trustee board, to cultivate their networks and to convert ideas into tangible fundraising success. S/he must be able to demonstrate a consistent track record of being able to secure six and seven figure gifts. S/he will work closely with programme teams to generate ideas and concepts attractive to private donors.    Due consideration will be given to a longer-term extension of the role for 2019 onwards subject to performance and successful revenue generation during the fixed-term.   Specific duties include:   To reach an overall trusts and foundations income targets for the year made up of annual and multiyear grants. Manage the portfolio of existing trust and foundation donors to ensure timely delivery of reports and excellent stewardship to secure future gifts. Provide first class account management and ensure that all requests for information and updates are met in a timely fashion. Liaise with appropriate project teams to prepare and submit compelling progress reports. Manage the portfolio of existing pro-bono relationships to ensure excellent relationship management so that relationships are maximised to their full potential. Ensure accurate reporting of in-kind contributions in statutory accounts. To plan and organise a calendar of relevant and timely approaches to major trusts and foundations and to be confident in managing and prioritising workload as required. Research and identify prospective major trusts or other grant giving bodies which have the potential to give over £50K per annum, with a clear focus on trusts which are new to Internews, ensuring that applications are closely aligned to the objectives of the funder and that they meet Internews’ aims and objectives. Establish a strong trust & foundations pipeline, creating new trust prospect recommendations and approaches. Develop personalised relationships with trusts & foundations to ensure excellent cultivation that deepens and nurtures their support. As required, plan and organise opportunities for trust supporters to experience Internews’ work first hand, through visits to our projects. Represent Internews at networking events where required and effectively engage with all stakeholders. Represent Internews to donors and prospects, through face to face meetings, knowledgeably and passionately outlining our achievements and the urgent need for our work. Develop strong and effective internal relationships with colleagues in all teams. Research and representation to grow Internews’ reputation and fundability among Trusts & Foundation and prospects in line with specific themes already identified. Joint representation and outreach with the Director of Development and the Chief Executive. Recruitment and management of Fundraising and Communication Intern/s to develop their skills and capabilities. Qualifications and Experience Essential; Relevant University Degree or equivalent, significant professional experience 3+ years in a Trusts & Foundations fundraising role Demonstrable, personal track record in securing major gifts from Trusts & Foundations Strong working understanding of the UK Trust/Foundation Donor market Fluent spoken and written English Excellent oral and written communication skills; able to publicly represent organisations Experience of using MS Word, Excel and Outlook and/or MAC Desirable; Experience of organising fundraising events and/or communications campaigns Experience of fundraising for international development NGOs or similar organisations Additional international language skills, primarily European   Personal attributes Essential; First rate diplomacy skills and professional discretion A willingness and ability to adopt a hands on approach Capable of working within a small team where a versatile, open, and facilitative approach will be required Strong communication, liaison and interpersonal skills to work effectively with people at all levels, and represent the organisation at a high level Ability to manage a complex, multi-disciplinary programme of work   To Apply: Please submit a CV with Cover Letter of no more than 2 pages detailing how you meet the person specification.
