Commercial Sales Manager (Media Sales) Location - Tunbridge Wells, Kent Must be a Driver/Own a car Salary: £20,000 - £25,000 + commissions, coupled with an excellent benefits package The Company: A leading and rapidly expanding group who have benefitted from a string of successive achievements and impressive accolades, including 42 award wins in the last three years alone, a Gold Standard award from Investors In People and extraordinary status in The Sunday Times Top 100 Companies to work for in the UK.. The Role: A customer driven sales role that incorporates new business development, relationship management and account management. Working in both B2B and B2C arenas in order to generate income and reach sales targets. Ability to sell to a wide variety of market sectors through creative face to face and over the phone pitches. The overall main purpose of this role is to generate advertising sales revenue for 2 regional publications, from the regional market, across both print and digital platforms. The main duties: • Plan and prioritise personal sales activities and customer/prospect contact towards achieving agreed business aims, including costs, sales and yield - especially managing personal time and productivity. • Plan and manage the magazine/territory/business according to an agreed development strategy. • Manage product, service and advertising rates according to agreed targets. • Maintain and develop existing and new customers through appropriate propositions and ethical sales methods, to optimise quality of service, business growth, and customer and satisfaction. • Use customer and prospect contact activities tools and systems, and update relevant information held in these systems. • Respond to and follow up sales enquiries using appropriate methods. • Attend regular individual and team meetings/training when required. • Generate, on average, a minimum of two new bookings each day for the targeted prospect base. • Communicate, liaise, and negotiate internally and externally using appropriate methods to facilitate the development of profitable business and sustainable relationships. • Report on a daily/weekly basis to the Division Director on sales and revenue progress in the agreed format. • Act at all times as a credible and effective ambassador for all our titles. Essential Skills/Characteristics: • They don't think in terms of sales but rather in terms of building a business. Great sales people are building a business, not just trying to make a sale. When you think beyond a sale, you're going to get other people's attention much more easily. • They build their businesses one customer at a time and then always leverage the last customer into more customers. • They listen more than they speak, getting an understanding of the customer's needs and then finding a solution. Great sales people always ask their clients why they want something done. • They deliver more than they promise, and always promise a lot! There's an old sales mantra that says "under commit and over-deliver," but our sale people should "over commit and over-deliver." • They invest their time in those things that positively affect their income and avoid spending time on those things that have no return. Our sales people don't waste their time on activity that can't tell you anything, or doesn't produce anything now or in the future. • They are always seeking new, better and faster ways to increase their sales efforts. Be really concerned about time. Our sales people consistently work on improving themselves and look for faster ways to close transactions. • They're willing to invest in networking, community and relationships, knowing that the difference between a yes and no is the relationship. Invest in your community. Don't look at it as an expense since you need to develop these relationships. Our sales people invest time in their community join business clubs, attend events etc. In other words, be involved as much as they can. • They're fanatical about selling. Our sales people are obsessed with their customers and growing their businesses. • They don't depend on marketplace economies for their outcomes and instead rely on their actions. Our sales people do well in any economy, because they create their own economy. • Our sales people don't need to be micro-managed. They push themselves. • They invest in their education, development and personal motivation, knowing that these are the tools of a sales professional. • They hold themselves accountable, possessing leadership, motivation and drive. • They are constantly in think, plan and prepare mode in order to continue to build their client base and keep their pipelines full.
