What you need to know about the role Capital investments are the key to our business transformation plan, and you will be an essential part of that process. Working as a Project Engineer you will lead or be involved in a variety of multi-disciplined projects, of differing scale, across the entire British Steel business. The variety of our infrastructure means you could be working on a structural repair scheme, installing a new chemical plant, trialling an environmental emissions-reduction technology, undertaking feasibility work for a new steel rolling capability, or enhancing our R&D facilities. With over 200 capital schemes at various stages of development, the variety of project work at British Steel could not be greater. Our projects are mainly based at our facilities in North Lincolnshire, but there may be a need to work on schemes at our rolling mills in the North East or within our national network of Distribution Centres. Your level of involvement will vary but will include the following: Delivery of projects from initial concept to commissioning and hand-over Development and appraisal of business cases Submission of schemes through gated project governance process Optioneering and feasibility work on developing schemes Technical specifications and tendering/tender evaluation Project Management Site set-up and supervision Project Risk and Process Safety reviews Scheme finance control and review Stakeholder engagement and management You will be required to ensure that activities are carried out in a safe manner in compliance with all relevant environmental, health and safety legislation. The role is a full-time position, but flexible working is also a possibility if required. What we need to know about you We need you to be an experienced engineer, ideally educated to degree level with a thorough knowledge of your engineering discipline (discipline for role is not specified as the team is multi-disciplinary) and a working knowledge of other disciplines. You should be chartered or actively working towards chartered status within your profession. You must be self-motivated, a good communicator at all levels, and be capable of managing, motivating and leading multi-disciplined teams. Knowledge and understanding of project management techniques, and engineering practices and standards, are highly desirable. Qualifications in APM/Prince would be an advantage though not essential. Previous experience of managing the engagement and work of suppliers will be essential, from creating including dealing with contracts, management of site work, change and claims management. You must be experienced in writing technical specifications for services and products. You are required to have proficient PC skills including Microsoft packages.
