In all the industries my role covers, Investment Banking is certainly at the forefront of technological advancements. As a fundamental rule, Investment Banking thrives on the use of data and the analysis, flow and interpretation of that data. Technology is now giving the Investment Banking industry a clear edge and this organisation is at the very forefront of that advancement.

They are currently in the midst of developing a state-of-the-art product that will enable consumers to simplify the retail banking experience. It is a highly scalable enterprise Web platform, designed to provide an easy to use and collaborative tool that enables customers to essentially work through the full trading lifecycle without ever having to pick up the phone and speak to someone - all from the comfort of their own home.

The team behind that is comprised of talented technologists all passionate about one thing... delivering a solution that helps their customers. They work in a collaborative and free-flowing environment, where creativity and innovation is encoruaged and emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning are utilised to keep things fresh and ensure the boundaries are constantly being pushed.

With that in mind, they are looking to recruit experienced Java Software Engineers to come in and join that team, contributing to the on-going development whilst at the same time bringing fresh ideas and impetus to the table. Your role will focus on core product development, with a primary focus on server-side technologies and I have highlighted some of those core focuses below:

Engineering Best Practice - This organisation are committed to a quality-first approach to engineering and would consider themselves a Tech House in their own right. You should come from a background where engineering standards are adhered to and should be able to demonstrate excellent Object-Oriented Programming skills, as well as strong functional analysis and design skills. Wider knowledge of Excellent object oriented or functional analysis and design skills. Wider knowledge of complex data structures and algorithms would be hugely beneficial.

Programming Languages/Frameworks - The core focus of their development is Java development (Java EE, Spring, Hibernate) and C++. Proven experience building enterprise applications in Java is therefore essential, as is wider experience in C++, Python and PowerShell. Background in C#.NET/WPF development is also fine, but the majority of this work is Java so there would be a cross-training element to the role.

Web/UI Development - Despite the vast majority of this role focusing on core server-side development, they are ideally looking for Full Stack Software Engineers with experience building responsive web applications and GUI development. Excellent JavaScript skills are essential, as is commercial experience with frameworks such as HTML5, AngularJS and ReactJS.

Stakeholder Management - Strong stakeholder-facing skills and the ability to work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders is a crucial aspect of this role. Despite not being a Tech Consultancy, your role will involve working with Business Analysts, Project Managers, Software Architects and QA as well as Investment Bankers/Traders. You will be expected to communicate with stakeholders on a daily basis and a background in either core consultancy or even management would be a great asset for this role.

But fundamentally, what they are looking to recruit is Software Engineers who actually want to work at the forefront of Investment Banking/FinTech and who equally want to learn from the foremost experts in Finance, Technology and Mathematics.
