The IT Platforms team is accountable for Aviva’s core platforms enabling service and change delivery while ensuring our platforms are secure, highly available and agile. This area is key to delivering Aviva’s strategy as a Digital First organisation and is the source of Aviva’s software engineering capability.

The Platform Run Manager leads on all aspects of Service for all systems owned within a Platform Area. They sit as a member of the management team ensuring that Service is given appropriate consideration and priority by holding Platform Managers and teams to high standards of delivery.

Health & Protection Platforms

The team lead on:

  • Bringing together and driving solutions for the Health and Protection Business.
  • Driving platform stability, integrity and security for their customers through robust operational discipline.
  • Ensuring that platform change and engagement is simple, fast and cost effective by building world class engineering capability, enabling us to Defy Uncertainty for our customers at pace.
  • Ensuring that the platforms remain highly competitive and cost optimised by driving simplification in all aspects, strong partnerships and a culture of innovation and agile working.
  • Key systems owned and managed by this area include ALPS, L70, FLA, GMS and Siebel.
Role Purpose:

  • Actively managing the operational integrity of the platform; ensure applications / systems within their platform are managed, secure and resilient such that continuity of service to the Customer is maintained within agreed risk, control and cost profiles. Accountabilities will be delivered through matrix management of resources within and external to the Platform teams and Development Centre, including Aviva Subject Matter Experts, Global Sourcing Partners, Aviva resources such as Global IT Operations, CISO and other CIO teams, 3rd party contracted services such as HP, Vodafone and other organisations providing IT services.
    • Aviva owned platforms; and
    • Strategic Partnership interfaces.
  • Delivering Platform changes into production, ensuring they are compliant with Business Protection Controls, IT Standards and agreed service levels.
  • Drive compliance to Business Protection Controls, IT Standards, agreed SLA’s/OLA’s through proactive management and monitoring of platform services, capacity, technical risks, data protection/infosec risks.
  • Drive delivery of essential maintenance and technical remediation (incl. infrastructure changes) to maintain/improve integrity and performance of platforms.
  • Active control of changes to the platform components, enforcing Change Control to ensure delivery of high-quality changes.
  • Accountable for direct management of high severity platform incidents; building productive working relationships with Business Stakeholders, Major Incident Teams and incident resolvers to rapidly recover and stabilise services to customers.
Key aspects of the role:

  • Effective management of multiple teams/suppliers to support the resolution of incidents, managing and driving resolution of incidents under pressure. Effective and confident when dealing with senior business stakeholders.
  • Compliance with Business Protection Controls and IT Standards which impact Run.
  • Governance over Run activities delivered in the DC through 3rd parties. In particular, guaranteeing delivery to contractual obligations within agreed costs.
  • Proactively managing the DC estate including vulnerability management, technical refresh, disaster recovery, business continuity, risk management, monitoring of critical processes, capacity planning and service resilience.
  • Guarantee the security of the DC estate through management of access recertification, segregation of duties, data protection and integrity.
  • Act as gatekeeper to new deliveries into the Production environment ensuring there are no risks to service or continuity.
  • Guarantee asset registers such as CMDB are accurate and maintained.
  • Review and allocation of Run costs within the Platform to ensure cost transparency.
Risks & Controls:

  • Identify, own and manage the specific key risks and/or IT controls and BP standards that you are identified as the owner and/or nominee for on iCARE.
Resource Complexity:

  • Driving delivery through matrix team structures, requiring collaboration and management of both internal and external resources.
  • The ability to influence people to achieve a shared objective with a total focus on Customer outcomes is key in this role.

While the Role is not primarily focused on Change delivery, change disciplines will be required to ensure:

  • Controlled fix of incidents.
  • Management and delivery of root cause fixes.
  • Working with DevOps teams to ensure appropriate input into backlogs and prioritisation of delivery in order to address incidents and root causes.
  • Providing input into Portfolio Planning in order to address issues, ensure services are supportable and to continuously improve delivery and cost-effectiveness of service.
Experience / Skills Required:

  • Demonstrable experience of managing complex high pressurised situations to a successful conclusion.
  • Ability to manage complex issues ensuring delegated actions are completed to the appropriate standards.
  • Experience of running and managing enterprise applications in a Cloud environment.
  • Decisiveness.
  • Ability to work in an incredibly time-pressured environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • IT Service Management.
  • Business orientation, able to translate IT into business terms.
  • Ability to influence others effectively to achieve the required outcome.
  • ITIL Awareness.
  • Degree educated or relevant experience.
  • Strong background in IT application management.
  • Systems Thinking.
  • Appreciation of Agile.
  • Demonstrable experience of thriving within high pressurised financial services organisation.
  • Working with outsourced IT services.
Additional Information:

Salary: £42,750 - £82,400 dependent on skills & experience.
