Hardware Design Engineer | Guildford | 6 months + (some remote work available) I am working with a client in the space industry who are looking to hire a Hardware Engineer to help with the delivery of a cutting edge product. You will take part in developing a variety of spaceflight hardware equipment that will operate on the company's own satellite busses and on 3rd party spacecraft. Hardware units will comprise embedded microcontroller and microprocessor platforms; embedded communications busses; programmable hardware devices; analogue, digital and mixed-signal circuits; RF transceiver equipment; and ancillary support circuitry. Responsibilities: * Design hardware modules to meet architectural requirements * Contribute to hardware design phases to meet requirements * Implement hardware modules to perform required functions * Assist in design and implementation of test regimes * Assist in parts selection process * Produce and maintain documentation and test reports Location: Guildford, Surrey (remote work available 2 days a week after first 2/3 weeks) Rate: £300 - £350 per day Contract - 6 months Start Date: End Jan / early Feb Essential Requirements: 4+ years' experience developing electronic systems, with the following technologies: * Hardware product development processes * Embedded (microprocessor-based) product development * Analogue, digital, or mixed-signal electronic circuit design * Power electronics * Schematic capture and PCB layout * Debugging, fault-finding and device testing You must be able to demonstrate experience of successfully working in an interdisciplinary environment, and also demonstrate experience of successfully managing your own work. You must be comfortable with unorthodox problem solving within tight deadlines. Desired Requirements: * A good (2:2 or better) degree in a relevant field (e.g. Electronic Engineering, Digital Design etc.) * Experience in a high reliability engineering industry such as space, defence, aviation, maritime or automotive. * Experience working on a completed product development cycle * Experience with ARM processors and associated tools (gcc, gdb, gprof etc.) * Experience with Xilinx or other FPGA devices * Experience with Linux (especially embedded Linux platforms) * Experience with RF up to 10 GHz and/or high-speed communications.
