Embedded Linux Software Engineers x 2 | Guildford | 6 months + (some remote work available) I am working with a client in the space industry who are looking to hire two Software Engineers to help with the delivery of a cutting edge product. You will take part in developing the system level architecture and implementation of a suite of flight software that will run on the embedded Linux video processing platform. This unit will operate on a third-party satellite and must interface to other hardware that supports the gathering of video data. Responsibilities: * Contribute to software architecture design to meet high level requirements * Implement software modules to meet architectural requirements and perform required functions * Assist in design and implementation of the test regime * Produce and maintain documentation and test reports Location: Guildford, Surrey (remote work available 2 days a week after first 2/3 weeks) Rate: £300 - £350 per day Contract - 6 months Start Date: End Jan / early Feb Utterly Essential Requirements: * 4+ years' experience developing software for embedded systems, with the following technologies: * Linux software development (especially for embedded platforms) * C / C++ Very Beneficial Experience: * POSIX thread management * Yocto, buildroot or other Linux customisation/system build tools * Linux kernel/driver development * Regression or automated testing procedures * Characterisation and/or code profiling. * Doxygen or other automatic code documentation systems You must be able to demonstrate experience of successfully working in an interdisciplinary environment, and also demonstrate experience of successfully managing your own work. You must be comfortable with unorthodox problem solving within tight deadlines. Desired Requirements (non-essential): * A good (2:2 or better) degree in a relevant field (e.g. Computer Science, Electrical Engineering etc.) * Experience in a high reliability engineering industry such as space, defence, aviation, maritime or automotive. * Experience with embedded bootloaders (especially U-boot) * Experience with ARM processors and associated tools (gcc, gdb, gprof etc.) * Experience with Xilinx or other FPGA devices * Experience with FreeRTOS, VXworks or other RTOS If you would like to be considered for this role, please send me your updated CV and we can discuss in more detail.
