NHS Forth Valley seeks to appoint a Specialty Doctor in Paediatrics to an exciting opportunity within the combined child health service based in Forth Valley Royal Hospital. This is a state of the art modern acute hospital with a broad range of clinical services and supporting departments.

The Combined Child Health department in Forth Valley combines community and acute paediatric service. We currently have a team of 11 consultant paediatricians (general paediatrics, one of whom for community child health), 2 associate specialists, 4 specialty doctors in community child health and one in acute paediatrics, 7 specialty trainees, foundation year 2 and GP specialist trainees, and 2 advanced neonatal nurse practitioners (ANNP). There have been further recent appointments made within the consultant body for both general paediatrics and community child health, due commencement in October/November 2017. The department provides comprehensive paediatric and neonatal care to a population of 300,000 people with 60,000 children under the age of 16 years and 3,200 deliveries per annum. There is a 25 bedded combined medical and surgical Paediatric ward; a 20 bedded Neonatal Unit (Level2) supporting a consultant led obstetric unit and an 8 bedded Day care and ambulatory care unit.

Forth Valley paediatric department participates in regional and national managed clinical networks allowing the development of specialist interests for all senior medical staff and ensuring children are cared for locally. The services are supported by a team of Community Children’s Nurses with general and specialist network links.
Forth Valley paediatric department has teaching commitments to undergraduates and postgraduates from Edinburgh, Tayside and Glasgow.
Involvement in research is encouraged and active participation in the Scottish Patient Safety Programme (Paediatric, Neonatal and Maternity) is well established.

The successful candidate will, with appropriate support and supervision from the Consultant and Associate Specialist staff, work alongside the nursing and junior medical staff to deliver care in all areas of our acute units. This post will supplement the clinical service delivered by the middle tier of the paediatric medical workforce. Additionally, the holder of this post will help to ensure continuity of care and work as a member of a multidisciplinary team and delivery of high standards of care and discharge planning. There will be extensive opportunities for teaching and training of junior medical staff, nursing staff and Allied Health Professionals.
