We are looking to recruit 2 additional consultants in acute medicine to join our current post holder. The successful applicants will provide presence and leadership on a day to day basis in the Department of Acute Medicine and will have the opportunity to work in and further develop the services in the Combined Assessment Unit opened June 2017. The areas covered by acute medicine within the CAU will be a 29 bed assessment area the rapid assessment area for same day discharges and ambulatory care. In addition the acute medical team play a critical role in the medical high care unit. The post-holder will also contribute to the medical on-call rota at University Hospital Ayr.

Situated in the picturesque south west of Scotland on the Firth of Clyde coastline University Hospital Ayr is within a sixty minute commute from Glasgow Scotland's largest city and an easy commute by road or rail to our capital city Edinburgh making it an ideal location for those who want to enjoy city life but who value the benefits and quality of life offered by living in a more relaxed semi rural district.

Over the last five years NHS Ayrshire and Arran has reviewed the provision of acute services and have agreed a strategy for the development of Acute Services with the Scottish Government. As part of this strategy we have secured significant capital funding in order to build and develop a brand new Combined Assessment Unit (CAU) at University Hospital Ayr (UHA). This will build on the highly successful CAU at University Hospital Crosshouse and represents an exciting opportunity to deliver a new model of unscheduled care for medicine for South Ayrshire.

Applicants will be appropriately experienced with Full GMC Registration including a current Licence to Practice. Applicants must also be on the Specialist Register of the GMC or be within 6 months of the anticipated award of a CCT or CESR in Acute Medicine or General Internal Medicine/Acute Medicine at the time of interview. Evidence of eligibility of inclusion on the Specialist Register will require to be provided at time of application.

The terms and conditions of service are those determined by the New Consultant Contract (Scotland) 2004. The posts are offered on a 10 programmed activity basis but opportunities may exist for Extra Programmed Activities to be undertaken subject to service requirements and in accordance with national terms and conditions of service.
