The Senior Finance Manager position will work closely with the Financial Director and support with the technical accounting matters. This role has excellent progression potential and would suit someone who has gained their qualification within an audit firm.

Client Details

The company is FTSE Listed and based within West London. They are synonymous with the construction industry and have an instantly recognisable brand.


The main responsibilities for the Senior Finance Manager will be, but not limited to -

  • Balance sheet control to ensure the completeness of liabilities and the recoverable assets. Specific areas of focus for BLB would be:
  • WIP and land reconciliations
  • Proactive balance sheet management - chasing up and clearing old / unusual items with the wider business
  • Ensuring completeness of month-end accruals
  • Provision management (for example, CDP transfers)
  • Balance sheet management - driving and managing the month-end process for the production of balance sheet folders for BLB, JV entities and the London Regional entity, ensuring the proper application of Group accounting policies and procedures
  • Site valuations - working with the Commercial team to ensure the information presented in valuation meetings and accurate and consistent with finance information
  • Balance sheet forecasting - involvement in the rolling three year planning process to ensure that funding, working capital and capital employed balances are accurately forecast
  • JV distributions - ensuring dividends / distributions are properly accounted for and documented
  • Preparing Group accounting papers and returns (e.g. IFRIC 15 and land creditor returns)
  • Liaising with Group teams on tax queries and financial statement queries
  • Other compliance matters (annual returns, national statistics etc)
  • Covering for the Financial Controller when necessary


The successful candidate will have the following attributes -

  • Attention to detail and the ability to be self-critical
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with an ability to work and communicate with colleagues from outside of the finance team and at different levels of experience
  • Ability to identify better or more efficient ways to do the job, and to challenge the way things have been done in the past
  • Ability to work in a deadline driven environment and to manage multiple priorities (either as part of a plc or large group company)
  • Integrity and a desire to do the right thing
  • Experience of:
  • Property development / construction industry
  • Long-term contract accounting under IFRS
  • Joint venture accounting
  • ACA qualified or similar, ideally with an audit firm, with a strong financial reporting and audit background
  • Good Excel skills and solid understanding of accounting software principles
