These posts would ideally suit trainees planning a career in Emergency Medicine or critical care specialties and would enable the successful applicant to be supported towards securing a position on the Specialty Training Programme. Documented competences achieved through a LAT can count towards CCT, or towards a CESR application for those not entering an approved Specialty Training Programme. Posts will be based at Glasgow Royal Infirmary and are as follows:
Post 1: ST 4-6 StR LAT/Clinical Fellow - 8 months (Dec 2017 to August 2018)
Post 2: ST 4-6 StR LAT/Clinical Fellow - 6 months (Feb 2018 to August 2018)
Post 3: ST 3 StR LAT/Clinical Fellow - 6 months (Feb 2018 to August 2018)
The Emergency Department at Glasgow Royal Infirmary is a dynamic, fast-paced clinical environment, providing care for a diverse city population ranging from those who live and work in the culturally vibrant centre to those living with the socio-economic challenges of the largest city in Scotland. We deliver consultant led care 7 days a week until midnight and beyond (with enhanced overnight middle grade cover) within an environment of continuous learning for the entire team. We have a 12 strong middle grade tier, a highly experienced cadre of nursing colleagues (many of whom are dual qualified as ENPs) and 23 doctors on our junior rota. The clinical team manage approximately 96,000 new presentations per year. The Emergency Department has excellent working links with Critical Care and Acute Medicine, in-patient surgical teams (General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Plastics) and Obstetrics and Gynaecology. We have well established Trauma Team and direct admission rights to all major specialties. We also provide in-patient care of head injury patients in a ward shared with acute medicine with twice daily ward rounds.
