Data Consultant / London / £500-700pd / 3 months / Inside Ir35

Main Responsibilities:

This role is for a data consultant covering all the clients sectors within the larger

Supervision Division. Supervision retail sectors include Retail Lending, Retail Banking, General Insurance & Protection, whilst wholesale sectors include Investment Management, Wholesale Banking and Capital Markets.

You will work alongside a broader team to embed the clients new mission, in particular - enabling more effective proactive supervision of firms which are regulated by the FCA.

This will involve grouping all regulated firms to portfolios on basis of how firms make their money, for example, based on Return on Equity. The groupings, approach to grouping firms and related business changes will be robust in long-term and they will form the foundation for supervisory activities across a spectrum of rapidly evolving markets. The exercise will require working with a wide range of stakeholders and data analysis.

Key Skills:

- Strong applied experience with at least one of the following software: R, SQL, Python, Microsoft Excel/VBA
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Open-minded and able to adapt quickly to dynamic business needs
- Experience in working with large heterogeneous datasets
- Experience in applying data analysis techniques in business environment
- Experience in financial analysis and/or appraisal of financial service business performance/profitability
- Experience of analysing a wide variety of financial data across multiple financial sectors
- Desire to deliver practical and cost-efficient solutions to enable regulation.
- Ability to work well in a team where team members come from different backgrounds and some will not be familiar with data analysis methods
- Ability to present technical information and conclusions in a way that is comprehensible to a non-technical audience
- Focus, resilience and strong problem solving skills and behaviours

Beneficial:

- Experience in applying empirical reverse-engineering and machine learning algorithms, e.g. stepwise, LASSO, random forest, support vector machines, PCA, Markov, etc.
- Strong knowledge of business data held by organisations which have
- Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) agreements with the FCA
- Experience of financial services firm business model analysis
- Good understanding of the UK financial regulation
- Postgraduate degree in mathematics, statistics, or related field
- Programming experience in Java/Scala
- Advanced competency and significant applied experience using R, Python, Tableau, Cognos or similar to analyse and visualise data
