A rare opportunity has arisen to work for a well known brand in Basingstoke. This is for a one year contract to start ASAP and would suit a Qualified or Part Qualified Finance professional. As an Assistant Tax Accountant you will not have to be a Tax specialist but having an interest or some experience of Tax is desirable.

Duties:

  • Assist in the preparation & delivery of timely and accurate calculations
  • Reporting and disclosure of tax provisions under all accounting bases (IFRS, Solvency II and UK IFRS) and tax bases
  • Assist in the preparation of the company tax computations for submission to HMRC and to manage group relief
  • Support the provision of tax data for all Financial Plans
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and company standards and controls
  • Support the relationship with investment administration outsourcers for the tax function
  • Assist in the verification that tax accounting records are accurately maintained and controlled by outsourcers
  • Assist in the preparation of the calculation and reporting of periodic tax provisions for all bases (CIFRS, UKIFRS & SII), in accordance with the required timetables
  • To include all relevant deferred tax asset and deferred tax liability calculations
  • Assist in the preparation of timely and comprehensive tax analyses/reports to support all tax provisions on a CIFRS, SII and UKIFRS Statutory reporting basis
  • Assist in the preparation for review for parent company tax Templates, such as the ETR (Expected Tax Rate) & and Tax note disclosure templates
  • Assist in the preparation the tax computations for submission to HMRC
  • Create and maintain accurate tax accounting records and perform balance sheet reconciliations in accordance with corporate standards
  • Ensure that all tax balances in the balance sheet are rationalised, and correctly analysed between assets and liabilities
  • Keep up to date with any new UK & Canadian tax regulatory reporting requirements and to ensure that these are completed on a timely basis, as required
  • Assist with the preparation of information required to complete the VAT returns in accordance with HMRC requirements
  • Prepare quarterly tax payments on behalf of UK Operations in accordance with HMRC deadlines and track receipt of payment via the Government Gateway
  • Maintain the tax department issues log and work with outsourcers on any required remediation
  • To undertake ad hoc tax project work as this arises
  • To be a 'teamplayer’ and to provide support to other members within the Tax team, as required.

Skills and experience:

  • A part qualified accountant, equivalent professional tax qualification or qualified by experience is essential
  • Insurance accounting/reporting experience is desirable
  • Understanding of the Taxation of UK companies is desirable
  • Strong communication and problem solving skills and an ability to grasp concepts quickly are highly valued
  • The ability to operate independently with little supervision in a deadline driven environment is essential
  • A pro-active seeking of opportunities for development is highly desirable
