NHS Forth Valley seeks to appoint a Consultant in General Adult Psychiatry.

The successful applicant will join the Falkirk West Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) based in Falkirk and will have joint responsibility for providing a comprehensive clinical service in Forth Valley. You will jointly provide inpatient and outpatient care for sector patients and work with the multidisciplinary team. The medical team for Falkirk West CMHT will consist of 4 members of consultant medical staff. Two whole time equivalent Consultant Psychiatrists have inpatient and outpatient responsibilities and there is also a part time (5 programmed activities) Consultant Psychiatrist who has solely outpatient responsibilities. The post holder will become the fourth Consultant within this team and cover Community work for 6 programmed activities per week. Falkirk West Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) provides care to a catchment area population of approximately 75,000.

The IHTT has been developed to provide an effective emergency / same day assessment and intervention service across Forth Valley, offering an increased level of care and support in the community as a direct alternative to in-patient psychiatric services. It reduces the need for hospital admission to acute psychiatric facilities, allowing for facilitated discharge and providing a range of interventions to alleviate or resolve a mental health crisis. The service may admit the patient during care but the focus is on treatment in the community. Psychiatry input to the IHTT will consist of 2 Consultant Psychiatrist both providing input for 4 programmed activities per week. The post holder will be one of these Consultants.

Participation in the out of hours on call rota cover is essential (1:15) pro rata. The appointment will be subject to the terms and conditions of service of the Consultant Grade (Scotland).
