About the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC)

The MSC's vision is for the world's oceans to be teeming with life, and seafood supplies safeguarded for this and future generations. Through our world-leading certification and ecolabeling programme we recognise and reward sustainable fisheries and through the leadership of our partners, create market incentives to encourage other fisheries to improve the way they operate. Over 300 fisheries around the world, representing 12 % of the annual global marine catch, are now engaged in the MSC programme. MSC certified and labelled seafood products are now available in over 100 countries.

The Marine Stewardship council is making material investments in ''Digital and Data'' to support our new integrated strategy. A program of work is being undertaken comprised of 5 key change projects one of which is the future establishment of a Business Intelligence Unit in the MSC along with the development of the ''MSC Data Hub''.

The Role

This Business Intelligence Systems Specialist role sits within the core IT function (working very closely with other key ''digital and data'' teams at MSC) and will hold full accountability for the overall global design, management and development of the MSC's Microsoft stack data warehouse located both on premise and in the cloud. This will include the creation and continuing development of all reporting, dashboards, and portals, alongside more analytical work focused around end user requirements, data modelling, visualisation, quality, usage and finally security.

Also working as a key member of the cross functional ''Digital and Data'' management team (who collectively manage and deliver the ''Digital and Data'' program) you will have a voice at the strategy level (contributing to the MSC ''Digital and Data'' vision), support the development of public and 3rd party web services (for data exchange), establish master data services in the corporate function, and support other digital projects where activity re data management/integration etc is required.

The role holder will be supported by key staff with domain knowledge of the scientific data (eg knowledge of fisheries) as well as an external Microsoft Gold Partner for the more technical development aspects of the data hub itself.

Job Responsibilities

Whilst technical skills remain key to this role the MSC are also looking for someone who has the soft/personal skills to be able to converse with the wider business across numerous countries and translate the technical language in a way that they can understand including training of staff, business analysis and management of suppliers alongside the management of the MSC Data Hub project.

To be successful within this position you should have:

- MS BI stack knowledge including: - T-SQL - Views, stored procedures, windows functions
- SSIS - to develop and deploy ETL processes
- SSAS - to develop and deploy tabular models
- SSRS & Power BI - to develop and deploy dashboards and reports
- Strong experience in data management best practices including master data management.
- Experience of managing full lifecycle projects, preferably of business intelligence or data rich systems
- Soft skills to work with the wider business including engaging with users/clients to understand reporting and analysis needs and reporting to senior governance committees on project progress.
