Risk & Governance Director - LSL Property Services - Estate Agency Division

LSL is keen to recruit a Risk & Governance Director to join our nationwide Estate Agency Division. This is a new role which is flexible regarding location but must be commutable to our sites in either York, Newcastle upon Tyne or London.

LSL is a leading provider of residential property services to its key customer groups. Services to consumers include: residential property sales and lettings through our 500+ branch estate agency network which incorporates brands such as Your Move, Marsh & Parsons, Intercounty and Reeds Rains.

The Role

The role will report directly into the Executive Director of Estate Agency and will form a critical part of the Senior Management Team.

The clear objective of the role is to identify, interpret, monitor and mitigate the Estate Agency Division’s legislative risks through the design and adherence to the risk management framework; the template will include identified key risks and will set the business risk appetite, show alignment and collaboration with Group Policy, provide assurance activities to ensure compliance through robust measurement systems including monitoring of remedial actions and ultimately ensuring good customer outcomes.

Role Responsibilities

Maintain and demonstrate compliance with residential sales regulatory and legislative requirements including, but not limited to: Estate Agency Act; The Property Ombudsman; Trading Standards; CMA; Consumer Protection Regulations; AML and POCA, Anti-bribery, Advertising Standards, distance selling regulations and EPC requirements

Maintain & demonstrate compliance to lettings regulatory requirements including, but not limited to, Tenancy Deposit Scheme, ARLA requirements; CMA Guidance for Lettings Professionals; HMRC requirements

Business continuity and crisis management

Information Security and Data Protection including compliance with pending GDPR legislation

Health and safety of estate agency employees and, as appropriate, customers

To design the risk management framework identifying key risks and ultimately setting the businesses risk appetite

Collaborate and align with Group Policy when seeking policy approval and deliver procedures to adhere

Provide '2nd’ line assurance activities to ensure compliance

Deploy appropriate robust measurement systems to track compliance, monitor remedial action and ensure good customer outcomes

Qualities

Proven track record in operational risk management.

Ability to interpret, mitigate and manage through legislative requirements

Strong understanding and implementation of internal governance procedures

Numerical skills and the ability to develop business cases which weigh benefits against costs

Ability to understand broad business risks.

Demonstrable people leadership and development experience

Ability to rationally assess and handle incidents when placed in pressured situations

Excellent presentation skills; an articulate and confident speaker.

Collaborative and influencing skills in matrix organisation

Experience of pro-actively leading a team through change.

Degree educated or qualification from the Institute of Risk Managers

10+ years’ experience in 'hands on’ risk management environments

Ability to both grow and manage a small existing team

Experience

Preferable experience in the following:

HMRC compliance (notably Financial Crime)

Information Security and Data Protection

Legislative compliance ideally within estate agency or similar
