McGinnis Loy Associates is proud to be working with a Top20 UK Accountancy Practice who are looking for a Tax Investigations Manager to work in their Central Birmingham offices. You will be responsible for managing your own portfolio of clients who are under tax investigation, using the services of other teams within the firm to help clients gain satisfactory conclusions as required. Other key duties include:

  • Preparation of Disclosure Reports and reviewing detailed analysis of historical financial data such as year-end accounts, tax returns and other financial information (eg personal bank accounts)
  • Discussing with clients your detailed knowledge of the Taxes Management Act and Income & Corporation Taxes Act in respect of corporation tax, income tax, CGT and capital allowances, both past and present
  • Reviewing revised corporate and personal tax computations for the period under HMRC review/investigation
  • Collating and understanding information requested from clients and third parties, managing the information flow throughout the course of the investigation
  • Corresponding with clients, Tax authorities and external financial institutions as necessary
  • Maintaining a high level of technical standards in tax-related matters
  • Displaying a full appreciation of other taxes and other legislation such as the Companies Act, Data Protection Act and the Proceeds of Crime Act in relation to specific client cases
  • Attending and presenting at external seminars and assisting with cross selling opportunities

To be considered for the position, you should be a skilled negotiator with both government bodies and clients, used to dealing with potential and actual conflict, and be able to project a professional, credible image with confident communication skills. You should be able to work under pressure and to tight & moving deadlines, instruct others, monitor and control their work and ideally come from another Top10/Top20, mid-tier or highly regarded regional Accountancy Firm. You should be comfortable running several assignments simultaneously, balance conflicting client needs whilst constantly monitoring assignment deadlines.

On offer is a base salary to £45,000 depending on experience, 23 days holiday, pension & healthcare schemes and other flexible benefits.
