We are looking for a Software engineer to work for us in Knutsford within a high performing Mainframe team and the wider Mortgages & Lending community consisting of development roles from Tech Delivery Managers, System and Software Engineers and Testers across both onshore and offshore. Team size of 13 onshore and 36 offshore.

Overall purpose of role

  • To provide Local System Testing of software development on a mainframe environment
  • The focus will be within the Integrated Loans Processing (ILP) mortgage application, where internal KT/Training will be provided
  • An ability to code/unit test will be a desirable requirement

Key Accountabilities

  • Produce/review Test Strategy documentation aligned to e2e Design and Design documentation
  • Produce Test scripts aligned to Design documentation
  • Execute complex test scripts using agreed methods & standards
  • Documents test failures and successes compared with pre-determined criteria, in accordance with agreed standards
  • Reports test results to stakeholders in a clear and concise manner
  • Uses standard operating facilities, test scripts, diagnostic tools, technical manuals and Systems documentation to identify, diagnose and report on basic system errors
  • Maintain a good awareness of Systems Development processes or a specific area of technology/infrastructure component to meet the needs of the project
  • Complete assignment work to budget, time and quality requirements
  • Develop plans to ensure delivery of own work
  • Conduct reviews of own and others work in order to improve quality
  • Build understanding of process and technical developments relevant to own team/programme
  • Coach and provide leadership and support for others, where appropriate
  • Act as a point of reference for both internal and external technical queries

Stakeholder Management and Leadership

  • The role will require stakeholder relationships with Project Managers, Product Development Managers, Technical Delivery Managers, Development leads and development/test colleagues across onshore and offshore (Pune)
  • Demonstrates strong communication, both orally and in writing, especially in translating test terminology to understandable language
  • Demonstrate integrity, initiative and commitment when interacting with all stakeholders

Risk and Control Objective

Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Barclays Policies and Policy Standards.

Personal attributes essential to performing role including competencies, expertise, knowledge, and experience. Note: experience requirements must not be in the form of years (minimum or otherwise).

Essential Skills/Basic Qualifications:

  • Mainframe software development consisting of some of the following languages and technologies:
  • COBOL
  • CICS
  • DB2
  • Exhibits advanced knowledge of testing
  • Demonstrates strong communication, both orally and in writing, especially in translating test terminology to understandable language
  • Effective management of relationships within own area of responsibility

Desirable skills/Preferred Qualifications:

  • Financial services
  • Large-scale blue-chip organisations such as Barclays
  • BSc degree in relevant software engineering discipline, equivalent to UK 2nd class honours
  • Coaching and mentoring skills
