I am recruiting for a well established precision engineering business based in Portsmouth. They are an ISO9001 subcontract machining company, manufacturing components for aerospace, medical, electronics and scientific equipment manufacturers. They process prototype, low to medium batch production in aluminium, engineering plastics, stainless and tool steels. This prestigious company is looking to expand and so are looking for a Quality Inspector in CNC Machining that will be reporting to the Manufacturing and Quality Manager; the successful candidate will take responsibility for all day to day inspection duties together with some quality management functions. They will consider applications from experienced inspectors or skilled, experienced machinists looking to make a career move in to inspection. The ideal Quality Inspector in CNC machining will have 1. CNC machining and engineering background. 2. Comprehensive knowledge and ability to interpret engineering drawings and geometric tolerances. 3. Extensive hands on experience of using all types of traditional measuring equipment including, digital height gauges, shadow graphs, micrometre`s, digital Vernier calliper`s, bore micrometres, pin & thread gauges etc. 4. Good organisational skills and ability to work under your own initiative. 5. You will be analytical, accurate and thorough in all aspects of your work. 6. Interactive team player, excellent communication skills. 7. Familiarity with an ISO9001:2008 quality environment, promoting and being part of continual improvement. 8. Computer literate with Microsoft Office applications. Experience with ERP/MRP software packages would be of benefit but not essential. 9. Experience of programming and using CNC / CMM`s would be advantageous but not essential. 10. Flexible to be able to help out in other departments. 11. Ability to manage and prioritise workload in a changing environment. 12. Have a continuous improvement focus. What are the responsibilities of the Quality Inspector in CNC machining? 1. Managing and prioritising work flow to ensure timely inspection, balancing the needs of production with final inspection in preparation for packing and dispatch. 2. Providing overtime inspection cover as required. 3. First off inspection. 4. Discussing and agreeing in process inspection with machinists to avoid patrol inspections. 5. Final inspections including completing FAIR reports when required. 6. Inspecting subcontract work. 7. Checking raw material, material certificates and delivery paperwork to purchase orders. 8. Designated signatory for the certification of release notes. 9. Receipting in completed works orders. 10. Assisting the Production Assistant on a daily basis to ensure goods for despatch are packed and any spares appropriately allocated and stored. 11. Preparation and participation in non-conformance investigations, 8D investigations and departmental meetings. 12. Maintaining calibration schedule and records. 13. Maintaining supplier approval schedule and records. 14. Operating and maintaining the computerised system and manual administrative records including becoming a "Super User" for the Progress plus Quality Module. 15. Collecting, monitoring and preparing statistical information as required from time to time. 16. Offering and giving advice and guidance to help the company streamline its quality and inspection system and improve its quality performance. 17. Developing, managing and implementing projects as required by your line manager. Standard hours: Mon - Thursday: 7.30 am to 5.00 pm Friday: 7.30 am to 12.30 pm.
