My client a reputable and established chartered institute based in Central London is currently searching for a Policy Manager
The purpose of this job is to identify key policy areas of long-term interest to their members support members to develop core narrative on these areas and deliver a range of high-quality policy outputs, based on expert knowledge, that are of measureable value to members, policy makers and in the public interest.
scan the environment to ensure that external policy issues of potential relevance to the profession are identified
represent members’ views effectively to policymakers, regulators and other key stakeholders in the UK, Europe and internationally
leverage members’ expertise and manage work programmes effectively to ensure quality of outputs and that deadlines are met
deliver effective, evidence-based responses to external consultations and identify follow-up engagement opportunities where appropriate
prepare briefing documents and position statements on key policy issues to support the public affairs activities
liaise with and co-ordinate activity across the different practice area executive committees on policy areas, ensuring that a cross-practice approach is taken where appropriate
develop strong and effective working relationships with members, ensuring there is a high level of engagement and participation in policy work
through stakeholder relationships and a mix of proactive and reactive outputs, help shape the direction of government and regulatory policy (UK and EU) in the public interest and in the interests of the actuarial profession
maintain relationships with key contacts and take a dynamic approach to the development of new stakeholder relationships
liaise with colleagues across the Public Affairs Directorate to ensure a consistent approach to our external affairs work programme
work closely with Practice Managers to provide support on policy-related issues
build relationships and work collaboratively with international organisations that represent or have an interest in the actuarial profession to raise the profile of the and its members
Knowledge and Experience Required
An established public policy professional with an understanding of the policy issues relevant to the actuarial profession and/or a pensions, investment or financial services background
excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to get to grips with complex technical information and to communicate this effectively to a range of audiences
ability to work to tight deadlines and effectively manage the contributions of others to ensure outputs are quality assured and delivered on time
ability to evaluate issues and deliver solutions
ability to see projects through to completion ensuring accuracy and attention to detail
proven experience of influencing policy makers at UK, EU and International level
experience of working with Committees to develop policy positions and manage conflicting views to achieve consensus, excellent project management skills and demonstrable evidence of the ability to manage multiple priorities
experience of working for a professional body or membership organisation
