About Network Team Engineer role

Technology is at the heart of everything we do, and this is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, technically excellent and customer focused Network Engineer to join our Infrastructure Team. The network forms the underlying infrastructure to our IT services, and is vital to the delivery of new applications, strategies and developments meaning OS remains at the forefront of the Geospatial industry. The network and its technologies underpin our day to day functioning, enabling data collection, storage and communications, both internally, and externally with our customers and partners in an effective, reliable and secure manner.

In addition to excellent technical knowledge you will be required to demonstrate customer service skills. You will take ownership of issues and have the drive to deliver results to the highest standard; results on which the organisation and our customers depend. As we are always striving to improve the quality of what we do, you will be expected to identify and implement improvements to services, infrastructure or processes to enhance our customers’ experience.

Your responsibilities as the Network Team Engineer will include providing support and consultancy to business customers and end users. Your communication skills will be put to the test advising stakeholders on the state of business-critical technical systems. Working with our Infrastructure Architects you will develop and implement forward roadmaps and contribute to financial and resource planning for the crucial systems you will support.

About You

You will need to demonstrate your track record against the following essential criteria and competencies:

- Design, build, support and troubleshoot Cisco networks (LAN, WLAN and VoIP) to CCNP level.

- Design, build, support and troubleshoot Check Point Firewalls (Gaia, Cluster XL, R77/R80).

- Experience of the following – IP addressing and management, VLAN, routing, switching, BGP, WAN technologies (MPLS, PtoP, DSL), DNS, SNMP.

- Skills in coding/scripting/automation methods

- Experience of the following is desirable and would be an advantage – Cloud technologies, Juniper SSL VPN, RSA Authentication, F5 Load Balancers

- Proven track record of applying excellent technical knowledge across a range of Network Technologies

- Ability to prioritise tasks and deliver to deadlines

- Good investigative and problem-solving skills

- Interpersonal skills and an ability to interact and build relationships with people at all levels.

- Very good track record in challenging and influencing the business to instigate change and improvement

The successful candidate must also have a full driving license, be willing to do occasional weekend or evening overtime, and be prepared to join an on-call rota (approx.1 week in 4).
