Management of the connectivity and security using private and public networks is paramount for delivery of IT services.The candidate for the Team Lead in Networks and Unified Communications will need a broad understanding of IP networking and security solutions, who will lead the network operations team.

A successful candidate will be adept at solving systems and network integration issues, working closely with the 2nd/3rd line infrastructure support, suppliers and the application teams. The role will manage provisioning of new services required by the projects under current service contracts.

We are specifically interested in candidates who have excellent supplier managements skills. Currently the WAN, WiFi and Firewall is managed by external partners (with plans to bring in-house). This role requires a good understanding of AWS cloud computing environments, with the additional skills needed to secure data and operational capability.

As part of the Network support team of three, you will be the lead subject matter expert in the TCP/IP network, Voice communications and Security solutions. You will be supported by two team members, will work closely with strategic partners to monitor and enhance all network related services (Cisco and AWS), voice telephony and external parameter security solutions. This role is 30% technical, 40% advisory/supplier management and 30% team/resource management. The day to day role is to work closely with the rest of the IT services teams to resolve support incidents, provision new services and manage the suppliers.

The candidate will need to have a broad understanding of IP networking and security solutions specifically on AWS environments and will hold a number of qualifications in relevant technical disciplines, but will also value your problem solving, service orientation and team working equally.

The post holder need to be part of 24*7 on call rota.

Key Responsibilities

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Manage the technical support team on a day to day basis including; task allocation, resource planning for projects and monitoring staff work to expected levels. Ensure that call escalations from other IT support teams are handled in a professional manner, such as ensuring end users are kept up to date on the progress of the call and the call is completed in a prompt and efficient manner

  • Maintain production network and firewall infrastructure to ensure high availability by ensuring that proactive tasks such as monitoring and maintenance are performed on a regular basis

  • Provide 3rd line support for the IP network, firewall, proxy server, WiFi, WAN, LAN, virtualized data centres and remote access solutions

  • Develop and implement processes that allow the identification of problems early and are solved in a prompt and efficient manner

  • Record asset & configuration information relating to the network and firewall infrastructure and ensure it is kept up to date and accurate

  • Regularly review network and firewall infrastructure build standards and update as required

  • Ensure that projects delivered for the live environment are fit for purpose and ensure it can be supported, this includes facilitating handover of the infrastructure to Support

  • Participate in the change projects, from an operational perspective, plan and build operational capability for both the current and future environments

  • Contribute to the service and operational improvement programmes

  • Work closely with the suppliers and systems integration partners to manage escalations and problem resolution, specifically with the application support team

  • Keep your knowledge up to date in a fast moving and evolving networking solutions

  • Have an understanding and knowledge of IP telephony solutions in modern call centres

  • Ensure the infrastructure is secure; manage data and systems availability, access control and service continuity to agreed standards that stand up to audit scrutiny.

  • Good team management skills and able to handle changing business priorities

  • A detailed working knowledge of various AWS services

  • Strong Cisco and networking skills, especially Cisco ACI and Nexus, industry recognised current qualifications preferred.

  • Several years? experience of firewall management: CheckPoint and Fortigate

  • A technical background in Citrix is desirable, especially NetScaler

  • Broad understanding of networks, security, end user computing back end infrastructure (Microsoft)

  • ITIL qualifications, awareness of programme and project management
