As part of the engineering function, the successful contractor will be part of the team working on designing a secure ground Tracking, Telemetry and Control (TT&C) system, from requirements review, requirement management using DOORS, identification of verification methods, modelling using MATLAB and ground-subsystem design up to the preliminary design review. The work will also involve selecting the components based on performance requirements and preparing the development plans up to TRL6/8.

The Group functions include:

* Software Defined Radio (SDR)
* Deep Space Command and Control
* Ground & Satellite Communication Engineering
* Digital Signal Processing (DSP)
* Spacecraft Tracking Algorithms
* Codec Development
* FPGA Design & Simulation
* VHDL Development
* Communication Protocols
* Messaging Standards

The Senior Engineer role would be involved in a range of activities in the areas outlined above including:

* Ground TT&C system design
* TT&C (secure) waveforms
* Ground TT&C development & production planning
* Modelling & simulation for performance predictions

The successful candidate would be expected to:

* Review specifications and assess customer technical requirements
* Prepare written reports and presentations as part of customer deliverables
* Develop relationships with internal and external suppliers to support awareness of the state-of-the-art technologies

Qualifications / skills required:

* Complex signal processing experience with satellite communications and/or space command and control / spacecraft tracking background
* Knowledge of SDR, TT&C for ground segment, secure communications
* Understanding of systems engineering principles and experience in subsystem as well as end-to-end system design from requirements capture up to TRL6/8 development covering waveform, transmitter, receiver and modem systems
* Solid grounding in science/engineering with more than 10 years of experience of working in a science/engineering or technology based environment, typically on complex, multi-disciplinary projects
* Fluent in MATLAB
* Knowledge of DOORS may be advantageous
* Highly motivated with the ability to quickly digest and apply new concepts and develop novel solutions to challenging problems
* Proven analytical and problem solving skills
* Able to assess and understand the impact of emerging technologies on a technical field or on a business area
* Good communication skills, able to present effectively to customers and to specialist technical audiences
* May already be recognised Nationally as a technical expert in specific area(s) of expertise
* Able to understand and talk with credibility (in terms of scientific/engineering principles) about areas of technology outside of own area of specific expertise
* Works cooperatively and collaboratively with others as part of a team and respects the opinions of others
* Able to work independently when required and as part of various teams
