Test Engineer – North England - £33,000 per annum

My client is a world-wide leader in providing security and surveillance solutions to the transport and defence industries. They are looking for a Test Engineer who would be responsible for testing of electronic and software systems, or part of and associated functionality on a contract, development or specific task as allocated by the Project Engineering Manager. These systems are predominantly IP based vision systems with local recording developed for a variety of mobile applications.

Responsibilities include:

  • Testing of Engineering deliverables (systems) for projects (customer, development and Legacy)
  • Testing support the Software and Hardware Engineering departments i.e. bug fixes, investigations etc
  • Ensuring that Engineering standards are defined and achieved relating to all testing aspects
  • Ensuring the Engineering test area is correctly equipped, safe and organised at all times
  • Ensuring that Engineering processes are in place and meet the business needs of the company
  • To continually look for improvement in the Engineering delivery of projects
  • Creation of test plans, specifications and reports
  • Carry out testing of electronic systems or part of in conjunction with the Engineering teams
  • Test Equipment identification, planning and control
  • Control engineering issues through live tracking system
  • Build, test and commission test walls and associated equipment including cable harnesses
  • Support testing activities at customer site where necessary

Required Experience:

  • Understanding of Linux operating systems
  • Previous experience as a Systems / Software Test Engineer or similar role
  • Ideally degree level qualified in engineering discipline
  • Experience of networked systems
  • Experience of software development
  • Electrical / Electronic Engineering knowledge
  • Excellent oral, interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Strong time management and self-motivation
  • Methodical approach to problem solving
  • Attention to detail and able to apply a logical and common sense approach to Engineering delivery
