Engineering Training and Competency Manager

Job overview

This job provides an opportunity to join a high performing team responsible for delivering the training needs of over 650 members of staff across the Engineering and Asset Management team.

This role forms a key part of the centrally based Engineering Training and Development team and is the centre co-ordinator for the EAL accredited apprenticeship scheme.

Principle accountabilities

  • Budget management - responsible for ensuring accurate reporting of P and L for both HR and Engineering funded training
  • Assess and evaluate the competency of all technician staff
  • Be competent to create a training needs analysis assessment based on business needs, statutory requirements and succession planning
  • Review competency against defined matrices and issue development/training programmes
  • Deliver competent person training to DEL and CEL

Responsible for providing verification of all NVQ3 modules forming the Advanced Apprenticeship Scheme. Including:

  • Completing assessment plans
  • Providing training and guidance on evidence collation
  • Making judgement and providing feedback

Line management and coaching of both apprentice and professional development trainees

Qualifications and Experience

  • Excellent IT skills able to deliver comprehensive PowerPoint, excel and word documents and be willing to learn Cornerstone LMS, Oracle and Claro E Learning content
  • Qualified A1 (D32/33) NVQ Assessor or a sound knowledge of NVQ modules and be willing to attain assessor certification
  • Train the Trainer accreditation
  • Demonstrable leadership skills
  • SHL Testing experience/accreditation
  • Experience of assessing and observing behavioural and technical skills
  • Comprehension of the need for competency assessment and the various ways in which this can be delivered
