Head of IT Operations

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

The Head of IT Operations will work in conjunction with the PMO and Development teams to ensure our internal and public-facing IT platforms, including production, QA and development, are operational in line with SLAs. They will manage the DevOps team to support delivery of product changes, enhancements and bug fixes, and they will ensure that desktop and mobile IT is provided to support the business teams. The Head of IT Operations will also ensure security provisions are implemented in line with industry best practice.
Key activities within the role include:
1.Manage cloud infrastructure, ensuring adequate availability, capacity and performance to meet business requirements across all activities, including dev, test and production.
2.Manage on-premise infrastructure, including servers, telephony, desktop and mobile technology to provide appropriate capabilities for employees, partners and members.
3.Resource planning and management to ensure that sufficient skilled and knowledgeable engineers are available to support operations. Manage DevOps team to support the delivery of software enhancements throughout the SDLC.
4.Deliver technical helpdesk capabilities (including Level 1, 2 and 3) utilising a blend of in-house skills and partner resources.
5.To act as business owner in supplier relationships relating to IT Operations, including cloud hosting, telephony, and local infrastructure support.
6.To implement and run a cost-effective and timely procurement process to support IT requests, including provision of equipment for new starters as well as upgrades and replacements where applicable.
7.To implement and run a cost-effective and robust service map process to track, control and forecast operational IT spend.
8.To keep stakeholders informed of operational performance through regular reports including tracking of incidents, availability, tickets, closure rate and performance against agreed milestones for project work.
9.To implement and manage appropriate governance structures and forums, such as CAB, DR / BCP forum, etc
10.Champion 'security in operation', including production of 'Data Protection Impact Assessments' (DPIAs) in conjunction with the Lead Architect.
11.Ensure that systems remain secure, including facilitating regular security checks and managing the closure of any identified vulnerabilities.
12.Produce responses to external security questionnaires, including those from partners and members, engaging with other teams (including Data and Development) as required to produce a full and accurate report,
13.Engage with internal and external stakeholders to gain insight and direction on key trends, and ensure these are evaluated and factored into plans for growth and development.


4.KEY OUTPUTS


Reliable and performant operation of our public-facing SaaS platforms in line with SLAs.
Consistent and efficient delivery of product enhancements through DevOps model. Good desktop and mobile IT that supports the business teams. Cost-effective procurement and management of operational costs. Robust security provisions, in line with industry best practice and exceeding our members requirements.


5.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

1.Four years or more experience at a senior level in IT operations, including referenceable experience of working with cloud and/or hybrid cloud platforms. Experience with globally distributed hosting would be an advantage.
2.Experience managing and/or supporting a public-facing 24 x 7 operation. Familiarity with globally distributed customers, including China, would be an advantage.
3.Knowledge and understanding of the full SDLC within both Agile and Waterfall methodologies.
4.Ideally, at least 1 years' experience working in a DevOps environment utilising CI / CD.
5.Knowledge and experience of Linux, Tomcat and Docker, along with Kubernetes and/or Mesos Marathon.
6.Familiarity with security principles and requirements, including ISO 27001, GDPR, PCI,
PSD2. Practical experience of delivering solutions within these standards would be an advantage.
