Legal and Governance Co-ordinator


Closing Date: 12th January Main purpose of job Carry out key tasks to effectively maintain FirstPort’s compliance framework. Assist the Risk and Governance Manager in activities that ensure that company policies and procedures are being followed, and that behaviour in the organisation adheres to the Code of Business Conduct. Also to carry out administrative duties efficiently in order to contribute towards the effective running of the Legal Department.

Position in organisation:

The role is as a Legal and Governance Assistant within the Legal & Business Conduct team reporting to the Risk and Governance Manager. Scope of role
    Assisting the Risk and Governance Manager in dealing with internal and external queries, request for advice via Legal Helpdesk/Business Conduct or otherwise and escalating where appropriate.
Attending to routine correspondence.

Assisting with the preparation of documents and internal and external reports as required.

Maintaining relevant business conduct documentation including registers and training attendance

Monitor standard business procedures and controls as through an audit program to ensure compliance with regulations and policies as part of the Business Conduct team

Liaison with internal teams to ensure compliance with relevant regulations.

Liaison with Consultants and external Solicitors

Opening and closing of physical and electronic files.

Handling email and telephone enquiries in a professional and polite manner.

Collating documentation for meetings and circulating agendas in advance

Managing the production of legal documents, composing correspondence and working effectively with other members of the legal team as required, alongside other such duties that may be assigned.

Undergraduate degree

Other legal or compliance qualifications or certifications beneficial

Experience Minimum of 3 years’ experience of working in a legal or compliance department

Experience in auditing beneficial

Experience of Property Litigation, Civil litigation and Conveyancing would be an advantage


An understanding of the Property Management sector would be an advantage.

An understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements for a business is essential

Technical Skills

A strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel as well as Power Point

Personal Qualities

Legal Secretarial or Legal PA experience.

Able to display superior organisational skills and diary management.

Effective communicator at all levels - both written and orally.

Flexible approach to work.

Confident working under pressure.

Ability to work under own initiative.

Ability to work to a deadline

Excellent attention to detail
