West Lothian Council is one of Scotland's most successful local authorities and is based in Livingston.

Legal Services provides comprehensive legal and committee services to the council and is made up of four teams - Committee Services, Licensing, Litigation, and Property/Planning.

Legal Services provides the full range of legal services to the Council, its Committees, members and Officers. The post-holder as a member of the legal services team is expected to undertake all types of general litigation and advisory work including employment, housing, social work, education, contentious contract and procurement advice, and all such other areas of work as are allocated to them and to assist the Chief Solicitor to ensure that a quality legal service is provided to meet customer expectations. The post-holder will be expected to support existing solicitors within the team and advice Human Resources.

The skills and experience you must have:
  • LLB degree Post graduate diploma
  • Membership of the Law Society of Scotland with a current unrestricted Practising Certificate
  • Post-qualifying litigation/employment experience
  • Good written and communication skills
  • Basic knowledge of law relating to a local authority
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • IT experience/aptitude
