This is working full time hours on a temporary basis.
Initially for a 2 week period due to internal processes, but the duration of the assignment is anticipated to be for up to 3 months to begin with, then reviewed.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing constitutional and legal advice to Members/officers and attending meetings of the full Council, the Executive Committee and other appropriate member bodies in support of the Strategic Directors and as may be required.

Other requirements are as follows:

- Provide leadership across the Council on all legal matters
- Provide strategic leadership, direction and service expertise to Elected Members in the development and delivery of corporate Council Priorities
- Must be politically sensitive
- Promote, develop and monitor good governance across the whole of the Council’s functions and activities encompassing work with partners
- Act as Deputy Monitoring Officer pursuant to Section 5 of the Local Government and Housing Act 1989.
- Lead and effectively manage the Democratic and/or Legal Service, Mortuary and Registrar’s Services

The postholder should be a Solicitor with a practising certificate from the SRA OR A Barrister with a practising certificate from the Bar Standards Board and must be able to demonstrate successful extensive relevant experience at senior management level within a large multi-functional public sector or similar organisation, in relation to all aspects of Legal Services.
