Job summary

The role of Product Manager is key within SLS and is responsible for the effective management of data and activity associated with existing products and the creation of new products on the business system.

Working as part of the product management team within the marketing department, this is a key role that involves engagement with suppliers and our Supplier Sales Management (SSM) team to ensure we present the right products in our catalogues, websites and other publications effectively. Reporting to the Senior Product Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and quality of product data and play a key part in developing publications and web content to communicate key messages effectively.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Management of data associated with existing products including segmentation, descriptions and digital assets
  • Responsible for managing item life cycle from the creation of products to their discontinuation
  • Gathering and editing rich content (extended descriptions and specification tables) for loading onto our Content Management Systems
  • Proof reading of marketing materials and catalogues
  • Competitor analysis – understanding our competitor’s product offering and price positioning. Identifying strengths and weaknesses
  • Product cross referencing including identifying alternatives to discontinued products
  • In conjunction with sales and marketing management, the implementation and measurement of effective promotional programmes
  • Identifying gaps in the product portfolio or catalogues and working with suppliers and SSMs to fill them

Ideal candidate

  • The ability to focus on detail
  • Experienced in data handling and MS Excel
  • Laboratory experience or previous experience in the laboratory supplies market an advantage
  • Team player and able to prioritise high priority tasks against urgent tasks
  • Self-motivated and a self-starter

Minimum qualifications and relevant experience

  • Educated to degree level in a science subject or alternatively a number of years’ experience of working in a laboratory environment
  • High standard of computer literacy in all Microsoft Office packages
  • A marketing qualification or an interest in acquiring a Marketing qualification would be an added advantage
